Haaland Haunts Dortmund as Man City Crush BVB 4–1 in Champions League Clash

What a night it was in Manchester! The Etihad Stadium witnessed a dominant performance as Manchester City powered past Borussia Dortmund with a commanding 4–1 victory in the Champions League. And yes, the spotlight once again fell on Erling Haaland — the man who simply couldn’t be contained by his former club.

There was absolutely no mercy shown by Haaland for his old team. The Norwegian striker, who played for Dortmund between 2020 and 2022, once again proved why he’s among the most feared forwards in world football. In the 29th minute, after a quick and sharp play down the left, Jeremy Doku sliced through Dortmund’s defense and sent in a perfect low cross. Haaland was right there, at the perfect spot, hammering the ball into the net to double City’s lead — a goal that carried both precision and power.

But even before that, the damage had already begun. In the 22nd minute, Phil Foden opened the scoring with a beautifully placed shot into the far corner, leaving Dortmund’s keeper with no chance. It was a classic Foden finish — calm, clinical, and full of confidence. And as if one masterpiece wasn’t enough, Foden repeated the act in the 57th minute, curling another stunning shot into the same corner to make it 3–0. It was like watching a replay of his own goal — pure artistry from the Englishman.

Dortmund, on the other hand, struggled to find their rhythm. For much of the first half, their attack was quiet, with only one real chance coming from Karim Adeyemi in the 39th minute. Manager Niko Kovač tried to shake things up after the break, making four substitutions at once, including bringing on Jobe Bellingham — brother of Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham — to inject some energy into the side.

The German side did get a glimmer of hope when Waldemar Anton scored in the 72nd minute, reducing the deficit to 3–1. For a brief moment, it seemed like Dortmund might mount a comeback. But that hope faded quickly. In stoppage time, City’s Rayan Cherki sealed the deal with a late strike, making it 4–1 and putting the game completely out of reach.

After the match, Dortmund’s goalkeeper Gregor Kobel admitted his frustration, saying that the first goal seemed to knock the team’s confidence and that conceding four was “too much.” Defender Nico Schlotterbeck echoed the sentiment, acknowledging that while they started well, City simply took control and deserved the win.

For Manchester City, it was yet another statement performance. Pep Guardiola’s men looked composed, clinical, and completely in sync — with Haaland reminding everyone that when he’s on form, there’s simply no stopping him. For Dortmund, it was a painful night against an all-too-familiar face who once wore their colors — but now stands as one of their toughest opponents.
