Harry Potter TV Series Returns to Its Magical Roots at Iconic Filming Estate

It looks like magic is in the air again! Filming for the much-anticipated Harry Potter TV series has officially resumed, and the cast has been spotted at the legendary Ashridge Estate in Hertfordshire — the very same location used for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire nearly two decades ago. Fans are already buzzing with excitement as the series revisits this historic setting, this time to recreate one of the franchise’s most beloved sequences — the thrilling Quidditch scenes.

At the heart of this fresh retelling is young actor Dominic McLaughlin, stepping into the role of the Boy Who Lived himself, Harry Potter. Alongside him, Louise Brealey takes on the role of Madam Rolanda Hooch, the stern but sharp-eyed flying instructor, a part originally played by Zoë Wanamaker in the films. Also spotted were Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy.

The scenes filmed this week reportedly capture Harry’s very first time on a broomstick — that unforgettable moment when he chases Draco after the Slytherin troublemaker snatches Neville’s Remembrall. For longtime fans, it’s an emotional throwback to the early days of Hogwarts, now being reimagined for a new generation under HBO’s lavish production.

The decision to film at Ashridge Estate feels like history repeating itself. This location famously appeared in The Goblet of Fire during the Quidditch World Cup sequence. The National Trust has confirmed its cinematic legacy, noting that while the famous Whomping Willow was not filmed there, the estate’s distinctive woodland did serve as a backdrop for several iconic scenes. Unfortunately, the ancient tree where Cedric Diggory once leapt down in the movie split in two back in 2014 — but it remains a nostalgic pilgrimage site for Potter fans.

Beyond Harry Potter , Ashridge Estate has quite the filmography. Productions like Maleficent , Sleepy Hollow , The Dirty Dozen , and even The Crown have made use of its sweeping, magical landscapes. Its royal past is equally rich — once owned by Henry VIII himself during the 1500s.

Meanwhile, set construction for the new series continues elsewhere in Hertfordshire. Entire wizarding villages, including what seems to be the Weasley family’s Burrow and Hagrid’s Hut, are being built from scratch. The production has even transformed nearby towns to resemble 1980s Britain, setting the stage for the early years of Harry’s story.

With a release planned for 2027 and a decade-long run expected through 2037, HBO is clearly sparing no expense in bringing J.K. Rowling’s magical world back to life. As filming continues, fans around the world are waiting with wands in hand, ready to relive the magic all over again — this time through an all-new generation of Hogwarts heroes.
