Hibernian Dominate St Mirren to Reclaim Third in the Premiership

It was a night to remember for Hibernian fans as their team produced a convincing 3-0 victory over St Mirren in Paisley, a result that lifted them back into third place in the Scottish Premiership table. For the home side, however, it was another frustrating outing, extending their winless streak in the league and leaving them searching for answers in front of goal.

The game began with a burst of energy from St Mirren, who thought they had taken the lead within the opening minutes. Marcus Fraser’s header hit the back of the net, sparking brief celebrations among the home fans — only for VAR to intervene and rule the goal out for offside. That early disappointment set the tone for St Mirren’s evening, as their momentum gradually faded.

Hibernian, on the other hand, grew into the game with composure and control. Their breakthrough came in the 24th minute when a poor pass out from the back by St Mirren keeper Shamal George was seized upon by Jamie McGrath. The midfielder kept his cool, sliding a perfectly weighted ball into the path of Josh Mulligan, who slotted home calmly to make it 1-0. It was a moment that underlined the difference between the two sides — sharpness in the final third.

After halftime, St Mirren briefly thought they had equalized through Dan Nlundulu, who powered a shot past Raphael Sallinger. Yet once again, VAR came into play, and the goal was ruled offside by the narrowest of margins. That decision seemed to drain whatever belief the Buddies had left.

Just minutes later, Hibs doubled their advantage through Chris Cadden. Linking up neatly with his brother Nicky on the right flank, Chris smashed a low drive past Shamal George to make it 2-0. The chemistry between the Cadden twins was on full display, and their combination play gave the Edinburgh side complete control.

Any remaining hope for a St Mirren comeback was extinguished in the 80th minute. Substitute Miguel Chaiwa, introduced late in the game, pounced on a loose ball from a corner and fired it home — with a slight deflection off Marcus Fraser — to seal a dominant 3-0 win.

The final whistle brought relief and joy for Hibs, who had not only delivered an impressive performance but also showed resilience after last week’s disappointing result. Josh Mulligan summed it up afterward, saying, “It’s about putting a run together. We know what we’re capable of, and this win shows our quality.”

For St Mirren, though, it’s back to the drawing board. With only eight goals in eleven league games and no wins in their last five, their attacking struggles continue to hurt them. As they drop to tenth in the table, the pressure will be mounting on Stephen Robinson to turn things around after the international break.

In contrast, David Gray’s Hibernian side will go into the break full of confidence — organized, clinical, and back where they want to be: inside the top three.
