Jetstar’s Black Friday Frenzy Brings Back Free Return Flights
So there’s been a big wave of Black Friday buzz in Australia this year, and it’s not just about gadgets or fashion — the airlines have jumped all in, and the deals are honestly wild. What used to be a mainly US shopping tradition has now spread across the globe, and it feels like every major carrier is trying to outdo the others with discounts, early access, and massive fare drops.
Jetstar has really stolen the spotlight by bringing back its hugely popular Return for Free sale. More than 90,000 seats have been included, and the deal is running for 72 hours. The idea is simple: pay for your flight over, and the return leg is priced at zero dollars. Some of the standout offers include domestic returns from around $42 — like Sydney to Ballina or Byron Bay — and international returns such as Perth to Singapore for about $149. What’s even better is that early access was offered to Club Jetstar members, giving them first pick a day before the public sale went live.

Qantas and Virgin Australia have also stepped in with massive price cuts. Qantas launched a Travel Week sale covering more than 1.5 million seats across 130 routes worldwide. People could spot one-way fares starting from $99, along with discounted long-haul options to places like Los Angeles, Honolulu, and Singapore. Virgin, on the other hand, slashed prices by up to 50 per cent on a million seats. There were short domestic hops from $49 and international return flights to destinations like Bali starting around $419. For the first time, Virgin has even added discounts on upgrades to their Economy X seats, which come with extra legroom — and upgrades on routes like Bali or Fiji have been made available for as little as $20.
The Black Friday competition hasn’t stopped with Australian airlines. Asian budget carriers like Scoot and AirAsia have released some of the steepest markdowns. Scoot has been offering Melbourne to Singapore flights from just over $200 one-way, while AirAsia has gone bold with a 99 per cent discount on fares when booking a return trip within their promotional travel window.
Other international airlines like Singapore Airlines, Fiji Airways, Qatar Airways, Etihad, and LATAM have also rolled out time-limited offers, covering everything from Southeast Asia to Europe, the US, and South America. Pretty much every corner of the travel map has been touched by these sales.
In short, it’s one of the biggest Black Friday travel rushes Australia has seen. Whether someone wants a quick domestic escape or an ambitious overseas trip, this week has been filled with opportunities — though, as always, each airline’s terms and travel windows apply. The bargains are here, but only for a short time, so travellers are acting fast before the deals disappear.
