Lamine Yamal Saves Barcelona in Six-Goal Thriller vs Club Brugge
What a night at the Jan Breydelstadion! Club Brugge and Barcelona treated fans to an absolute rollercoaster of a match, ending in a thrilling 3-3 draw. From the very start, it was clear this would be no ordinary Champions League clash. Brugge, eager to respond after back-to-back defeats in Europe, came flying out of the blocks, catching Barcelona’s high defensive line off guard. Carlos Forbs cleverly beat the offside trap and laid the ball off to Nicolo Tresoldi, who made no mistake, slotting past Wojciech Szczesny for an early lead.
Barcelona, however, weren’t going to lie down. Just two minutes later, Ferran Torres fired back with a clinical finish after Fermin Lopez set him up beautifully. The La Liga giants almost took the lead shortly after, when Fermin struck the outside of the post, but Brugge made them pay for that miss. A lightning-quick counter in the 17th minute saw Forbs and Christos Tzolis combine perfectly, with Forbs netting his second and putting the Belgians ahead again.

The second half was a test of Barcelona’s resilience. Fermin Lopez forced a brilliant save from Nordin Jackers early on, keeping their hopes alive. But it was young prodigy Lamine Yamal who truly stole the show. On the hour mark, he weaved through a sea of Brugge defenders, linked up with Fermin in a neat one-two, and finished with composure to level the score. His heroics, however, were immediately tested as Forbs exploited Barcelona’s exposed high line once more, delicately chipping Szczesny to put Brugge 3-2 up.
Barcelona weren’t done yet. With just over ten minutes remaining, Yamal delivered a dangerous cross that Tzolis inadvertently turned into his own net, giving Barcelona the equaliser and a point in a game full of drama. Despite dominating possession, Barcelona had to ride their luck late on, with Szczesny nearly gifting Brugge a late goal in injury time.
Individual performances were a mixed bag. Szczesny was left exposed by the high line but still made crucial saves, while Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo struggled to contain Brugge’s pace upfront. Alejandro Balde had a particularly tough night against Forbs. Frenkie de Jong stood out in midfield, dictating play and linking defense to attack. But the real star was Lamine Yamal, whose two decisive contributions rescued Barcelona in Belgium. Fermin Lopez also impressed with his creativity and link-up play, while Ferran Torres gave Barcelona a timely spark in the first half.
Manager Hansi Flick had to rue the defensive lapses that left his side vulnerable, but thanks to Yamal’s brilliance, Barcelona walk away with a hard-earned draw in a match that will be remembered for its sheer excitement and attacking fireworks.
The six-goal thriller underlined both the promise and the frailties of Barcelona this season, but one thing is clear: Lamine Yamal is becoming indispensable for the Blaugrana.
