The 2025 DP World Tour season is reaching its dramatic conclusion this week at the DP World Tour Championship, held at the spectacular Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai. Over the course of a busy global season featuring 41 events across 27 countries and five continents, players have battled tirelessly to climb the Race to Dubai leaderboard. Now, the spotlight is firmly on the season finale, where the stakes have never been higher.
Rory McIlroy, the Northern Irish superstar, enters the tournament not only as defending champion but also as the man in control of his own destiny. Having already secured two DP World Tour titles this year, completed a career Grand Slam at The Masters, and triumphed in a tense play-off at the Amgen Irish Open, McIlroy is looking to claim the DP World Tour Championship for the fourth time and secure a seventh Race to Dubai title. His confidence was bolstered by a stunning final-round 62 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, which extended his lead over closest rival Marco Penge to over 767 points.

The championship will be contested over 72 holes, with no cut, and carries a record $10 million prize fund—the largest on the DP World Tour outside the four majors. A total of 12,000 Race to Dubai points are up for grabs, with 2,000 going to the winner and 1,335 awarded for a solo second-place finish. With so many points on offer, the leaderboard could still see surprises, but McIlroy holds a strong advantage. Penge would need a tie for second or better to have a realistic chance of overtaking him, while Tyrrell Hatton must win outright and rely on a series of favourable results to disrupt McIlroy's dominance.
The field is star-studded, featuring the top 50 players in the Race to Dubai standings, alongside members of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup team who have qualified through other exemptions. Ryder Cup winners such as Shane Lowry, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, and Rasmus Højgaard will all be in action, while debutant Ludvig Åberg will make his first appearance at this prestigious season-ending event. Only Viktor Hovland from the top 50 will miss out, making the competition for the title and points incredibly fierce.
The financial stakes are as high as the competitive ones. The winner of the DP World Tour Championship will pocket $3 million, while the runner-up can expect over $1.25 million. Players finishing in the top 18 will earn six-figure paychecks, and the top 10 eligible pros on the Race to Dubai leaderboard will secure PGA Tour cards for the 2026 season, opening doors to tournaments such as the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Genesis Invitational, and The Players Championship. Marco Penge is already guaranteed one of these coveted cards, with several other players still in contention for dual membership.
