Olivia Dean Arrives in Sydney Disguised and Ready for the ARIAs

It looks like Sydney had a surprise visitor touch down this week, and she almost slipped right under everyone’s radar. The person in question was none other than UK singer-songwriter Olivia Dean — the rising pop and soul sensation who’s gearing up for a major performance at this year’s ARIA Awards.

Now, if you’ve been following Olivia’s journey, you’ll know her talent has been recognized early. She began writing songs at just 16, teaching herself both guitar and piano along the way. Her debut single Reason To Stay dropped back in 2018, followed by two EPs in 2019 and 2020 that really showcased her soulful sound. Things took off even faster when Amazon Music named her their Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2021, shortly before her cover of The Christmas Song climbed to number 19 on the UK charts.

Fast-forward to this year, and Olivia is enjoying an even bigger moment. Her second album, The Art of Loving , was released in September and quickly gained international attention, especially thanks to the hit track Man I Need . And as if the music world weren’t already keeping her busy, she’s now venturing into fashion and beauty, taking on brand ambassador roles for global giants like Chanel and soon Burberry’s Her fragrance, with a full campaign rolling out in 2026.

So when Olivia arrived in Sydney on Tuesday, she clearly wanted some peace and quiet before the whirlwind ahead. She stepped off the plane practically incognito. Wrapped in a $2,100 Burberry hooded scarf that covered most of her head, wearing tinted black sunglasses, and even a red baseball cap tucked underneath — she looked almost unrecognizable. Her oversized black leather jacket, wide-leg jeans, and brown boots completed the low-key look, making it easy to miss her unless you were really paying attention. In one hand she carried a stylish leather clutch, in the other a pair of large white headphones — maybe squeezing in some last-minute prep for her big ARIAs debut.

What’s especially exciting is that Olivia will be the only international performer at the awards this year, joining a lineup packed with Aussie stars like G Flip, Baker Boy, Missy Higgins, Keli Holliday, and more. Presenters include US singer Kacey Musgraves and model Tyra Banks, adding even more star power to the night.

And while she clearly wasn’t looking for attention, Olivia didn’t seem bothered by the long flight at all. She was spotted smiling as she made her way through the terminal, appearing relaxed and ready for the big week ahead. Her arrival also comes fresh off going public with her new relationship with drummer Eddie Burns, with whom she recently shared sweet moments at Wimbledon and onstage at BST Hyde Park.

So yes — the mystery traveler wrapped in Burberry was Olivia Dean, arriving quietly but preparing to make a very loud impression on the ARIAs stage.
