Richa Ghosh’s Power-Packed Cameo Lights Up Women’s World Cup Final

Richa Ghosh once again proved why she’s India’s go-to finisher on the grandest stage of them all — the ICC Women’s World Cup Final. Walking in late during India’s innings, she didn’t have time to settle, but that’s exactly how she likes it. In just 24 balls, Richa smashed a blazing 34 runs that completely changed the tone of India’s innings and gave them the much-needed push toward a competitive total.

When she walked out to bat in the 44th over, India was searching for momentum after Harmanpreet Kaur’s departure. Amanjot Kaur had been promoted earlier, but when Richa finally arrived, it was as if a switch had been flipped. The second ball she faced was launched over the boundary off Nadine de Klerk — a clean six that set the tone for what was to follow. She found boundaries in almost every over she faced, hitting two fours in the 45th, then adding more in the next two overs, showing incredible composure and intent.

By the time she was dismissed with just six balls left in the innings, India had surged to 292 for 6. Her stay at the crease lasted only 35 balls, but in that time, India added 47 runs — a stretch of play that arguably shaped the final total of 299. Without her burst of energy, India might have struggled to cross 270, and that late acceleration kept the hosts not just in the game, but arguably in control heading into the second innings.

It’s remarkable how much Richa has evolved since her ODI debut in 2021. Initially seen as a promising youngster, she struggled to find consistency in the 50-over format. But this World Cup has been her breakout stage. Under the guidance of captain Harmanpreet Kaur and coach Amol Muzumdar, her role as India’s designated finisher has been carefully managed — often sending her in just when the team needs fireworks. That strategy has paid off handsomely.

Her performances in this tournament have been nothing short of outstanding. A superb 94 against South Africa in the group stage, a crucial cameo in the semifinal against Australia, and now this match-defining knock in the final — Richa has delivered in style every time India needed her.

And she’s not just making runs; she’s breaking records. With 12 sixes in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, Richa now holds the record for the most sixes in a single edition — equaling legends like Deandra Dottin and Lizelle Lee. She also topped the charts for most runs scored in the final overs (41–50), amassing 185 runs at a strike rate above 165.

For a player who once missed a school exam to chase her cricketing dream, this moment feels poetic. From the fields of Siliguri to the World Cup final in Mumbai, Richa Ghosh’s story continues to inspire — a blend of power, poise, and unshakable belief that has made her one of Indian cricket’s brightest stars.
