Scotland’s Under-21 squad is gearing up for a pivotal couple of matches in the UEFA EURO 2027 qualifiers, with the team preparing to travel to Gibraltar before returning home to face Bulgaria. After an impressive 12-0 victory over Gibraltar in October, followed by a dramatic 3-3 draw in Baku, the team is looking to climb the Group B table, currently sitting fourth behind Portugal, Czechia, and Bulgaria. The upcoming fixtures are crucial if Scotland wants to secure a strong qualifying position.

The first challenge comes on Friday, 15th November, when Scot Gemmill’s side takes on Gibraltar at the Europa Point Stadium. Scotland will then return to Lanarkshire to host Bulgaria at Fir Park in Motherwell on Tuesday, 18th November, with a 5:30 pm kick-off. Tickets are still available for the home fixture, and Scotland Supporters Club members can attend for free.

Several changes have been made to the squad since the last matches. Rory Mahady, Matthew Anderson, and Daniel Kelly have withdrawn, making way for new call-ups, including Ipswich Town’s Woody Williamson and Ryan Carr, Aberdeen’s Dylan Lobban, and Dunfermline Athletic duo Andrew Tod and Barney Stewart. Suspensions affect Dire Mebude and Jeremiah Mullen, who were red-carded in the chaotic Baku draw. Rory Wilson returns to the Under-21 squad for the first time since October 2023, bringing an impressive scoring record from Scotland’s youth teams.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ethan Sutherland has been called up to the squad for the first time after a strong season in Premier League 2, where he has already contributed twice. Another debutant, Taylor Steven, is also in the squad, fresh from a goal and assist in the Scottish Championship with St. Johnstone.

Manager Scot Gemmill emphasized the importance of approach and mindset ahead of the Gibraltar match. He highlighted that this game will be very different from the high-level performance in Dundee and stressed the need to maintain attacking intent while demonstrating the right team attitude.

Scotland’s squad combines experience and youthful talent, with key players across the pitch, including goalkeepers Ruairidh Adams, Woody Williamson, and Liam McFarlane; defenders Jeremiah Chilokoa-Mullen, Sam Cleall-Harding, Colby Donovan, Luke Graham, Ben McPherson, Connor Allan, and Dylan Lobban; midfielders Ryan Carr, Kristi Montgomery, Kyle Ure, David Watson, Taylor Steven, Ethan Sutherland, and Andrew Tod; and forwards Rory Wilson, Emilio Lawrence, Ryan One, Dire Mebude, James Wilson, and Barney Stewart. Several players are graduates of the Scottish FA JD Performance Schools, demonstrating the continued success of youth development pathways.

Both upcoming qualifiers will be streamed live on the Scotland National Team YouTube channel, allowing supporters to follow the team’s progress closely. With the squad refreshed and focused, Scotland U21s aim to build on their previous results and make a strong push in the EURO qualifiers.
