Shropshire Saver Becomes £1 Million Premium Bonds Winner

A Shropshire resident has just joined the elite circle of million-pound Premium Bonds winners after scooping the top £1 million jackpot in the November 2025 draw. The win, announced by National Savings and Investments (NS&I), marks the fourth time someone from Shropshire has taken home the life-changing top prize. What makes it even more special is that the winning bond was bought all the way back in October 2015 — proof that patience can sometimes pay off in the most spectacular way.

The Shropshire winner shares the top spotlight this month with another lucky saver from York, who also landed a £1 million prize. Both winners held the maximum £50,000 in Premium Bonds, giving them more chances in the monthly draw. It’s an extraordinary reminder of how Premium Bonds continue to spark excitement nearly seven decades after their introduction.

Premium Bonds first went on sale in November 1956, and the first prize draw was held the following year. Since then, more than £38 billion has been paid out in prizes. What keeps them so appealing to savers is that every prize, from £25 up to £1 million, is completely tax-free.

This month’s draw was a particularly generous one. Over six million prizes were handed out, totalling around £401 million in value. In addition to the two million-pound winners, three lucky savers with holdings under £300 managed to grab £50,000 each — one from Northern Ireland, another from Outer London, and one from South Yorkshire. It’s a reminder that even small savers can strike it big.

Interestingly, NS&I revealed that in Shropshire alone, there are still more than 10,800 unclaimed prizes worth about £438,000, dating as far back as 1972. The largest of these unclaimed winnings is £10,000 — money waiting quietly for its rightful owner to come forward.

For one of this month’s new millionaires, the win means a dream trip halfway across the world. The winner reportedly plans to fly first class to Australia next year — with champagne in hand and even a new ukulele to take along.

The odds of winning a prize with Premium Bonds stand at about 22,000 to 1, with a current prize fund rate of 3.6%. Savers can invest anywhere from £25 up to £50,000, and while there’s no guaranteed return, the thrill of possibly winning big continues to draw millions across the UK.

So, if you’ve got some old Premium Bonds tucked away somewhere, it might be worth giving them another look. As this Shropshire winner has just proven — your lucky number could be waiting to change your life next.
