Sri Lanka Edge Pakistan in a Thrilling Last-Over Finish
What a match this was — the kind of T20 drama that feels almost scripted. If you missed it, Sri Lanka pulled off a stunning 6-run win over Pakistan in Rawalpindi in the final league game of the Pakistan T20I Tri-Series 2025. And honestly, the game had everything: early collapse, heroic rebuilding, pressure overs, fumbles, missed chances, and finally, a last-over masterclass by Dushmantha Chameera.
Sri Lanka had been asked to bat first, and they responded with a total that kept them in the contest throughout — 184 for 5. The tone was set early when Kamil Mishara, who had been a bit unlucky in the previous outing, finally showed what he’s capable of. His clean striking at the top gave Sri Lanka momentum. Supported by Kusal Mendis, Janith Liyanage, and the middle-order, the innings moved smoothly, with everyone contributing enough to build a strong platform. Dasun Shanaka later said he was proud of the team’s energy and clarity, and it showed. It felt like a complete batting performance.
But the real story began when Pakistan started their chase.

Chameera, who would later be named Player of the Match, produced a blistering opening spell. Three wickets in his first two overs left Pakistan reeling at 40 for 4. At that moment, it felt like the chase might wrap up early. But then came the resistance.
Captain Salman Agha stepped in with calmness and intent. He rebuilt patiently with Usman Khan through a strong 50-run stand. Once Usman departed, Agha switched gears beautifully, rotating strike, clearing the infield, and dragging Pakistan back into the contest almost single-handedly. By the time they reached the final two overs, Pakistan had clawed their way into a position where victory was more than realistic. With 10 needed from the last over, momentum was entirely on their side.
But this is where Chameera returned — and completely flipped the script again.
His final over was a masterclass under pressure. Yorker after yorker, variation after variation, he denied boundaries, denied strike to Agha, and eventually denied Pakistan the win. Faheem Ashraf’s dismissal, the missed single that kept Agha off strike, and finally the pinpoint yorker to Mohammad Wasim Jr sealed the match. Sri Lanka were ecstatic; Pakistan were stunned.
Agha admitted afterward that the slow start with both bat and ball cost them dearly. Recovering from 40 for 4 while chasing over 180 is heroic, but not starting well in T20 usually forces a team to chase the match all the way through — and that’s exactly what happened.
With this win, Sri Lanka booked their place in the final and knocked Zimbabwe out of the tournament. And honestly, if the final ends up being even half as dramatic as this game, fans are in for a treat.
