Toy Story 5 Teaser Declares “The Age of Toys Is Over”
The toys are back—but this time, they’re up against something far more advanced than they’ve ever faced before. Pixar has just dropped the first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 , and it’s giving fans a mix of nostalgia and a taste of modern chaos. The trailer teases a fresh new conflict that could mark a turning point for Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang. The tagline says it all: “The age of toys is over.”
In the teaser, we see the familiar setting of Bonnie’s room—only now, it’s filled with the glow of screens and gadgets. The new character, Lilypad, is introduced—a bright, frog-shaped smart tablet voiced by Past Lives and Tron: Ares star Greta Lee. Lilypad’s high-tech charm instantly shakes things up, as the toys struggle to understand their place in a world ruled by smart devices and voice assistants. Her cheerful but slightly unsettling catchphrase, “Let’s play!”, perfectly captures the tone Pixar is aiming for—playful but with a hint of menace.

Co-directors Andrew Stanton and McKenna Harris have described the film as “a hilarious and poignant exploration of how our legacy toys would respond to today’s world of technology.” Stanton, known for Finding Nemo and WALL-E , returns to direct and write the film, while Harris makes her feature directing debut after years at Pixar in creative roles.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Toy Story without its classic voices. Tom Hanks returns as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack as Jessie. They’re joined by Tony Hale as Forky and Blake Clark as Slinky Dog. There are also some fun new additions—Conan O’Brien lends his voice to a toilet training assistant named Smarty Pants, while Ernie Hudson takes over the role of Combat Carl following the passing of Carl Weathers.
This fifth installment marks Pixar’s first Toy Story film without John Lasseter’s involvement, following his departure in 2018. Still, the studio seems determined to prove the magic is alive and well. With Toy Story 5 set to release on June 19, 2026, it arrives during a comeback moment for Pixar after a few box office ups and downs. While Elio struggled to find its audience, Inside Out 2 became a record-breaking hit, grossing over $1.5 billion worldwide.
Nearly 30 years after the first Toy Story revolutionized animation, it feels fitting that the toys now face their toughest challenge yet—staying relevant in a digital world. The trailer may be short, but it’s clear that this next chapter is blending heartfelt nostalgia with a timely message. The age of toys might be ending—but the story of Toy Story is far from over.
