Tragic Murder-Suicide Shakes Tiffin Community

A small Ohio town is grappling with an unimaginable tragedy after a violent incident claimed the lives of four people, including two young children. On Wednesday evening in Tiffin, police responded to a distress call from a mother who had witnessed a horrifying shooting at her home on Huss Street. Although she escaped physical harm, she was described by authorities as “visibly traumatized, overwhelmed, and in shock” by the events she had just endured.

According to police reports, the mother had been attempting to remove personal belongings from the house amid ongoing domestic issues. She was assisted by Dustin Wiley, the father of her 7-year-old child, while her husband, 42-year-old Ryan Eagon, was reportedly away for work. Evidence later indicated that the two adults were inside the home gathering items when the children, ages seven and seven months, were outside near a car.

Tragically, Ryan Eagon appeared in the driveway, and witnesses reported that he first fired at Wiley before turning the gun on the children. Both children were fatally shot. Wiley was also struck and later succumbed to his injuries at Tiffin Mercy Hospital. Following the attacks, Eagon took his own life at the scene. First responders, including Tiffin Police and Fire and Rescue, were on site quickly, and no law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been called in to assist with the ongoing investigation. Authorities are carefully processing evidence and conducting interviews as the community tries to come to terms with the scale of the loss.

Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly expressed the profound impact this event has had on the town, stating that such a violent act is not something the community is accustomed to. He asked residents to keep the victims’ families, as well as first responders, in their thoughts as everyone copes with the emotional toll. Tiffin Mayor Lee Wilkinson echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of unity and support during this heartbreaking time. He reassured residents that the city will continue working closely with law enforcement and encouraged everyone to prioritize healing and community care.

In response to the tragedy, the community has organized a vigil for Sunday at the Tiffin 9-11 Memorial, also known as the All Patriots Memorial. Organizers, including local residents Rita Slaymaker and her friend Dawn, hope the event will provide a safe space for remembrance, prayer, and support for the grieving family. Battery-operated candles or flashlights are encouraged for attendees, and a few will be provided for those who need them. The vigil aims to honor the victims’ memories while bringing the community together in a shared moment of reflection and solidarity.

As Tiffin mourns, the focus remains on supporting those affected and helping the community process this devastating loss. It is a tragic reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of coming together in times of profound sorrow.
