Tyler Herro Returns in Style, Leads Heat Past Mavericks
The Miami Heat welcomed back a key player on Monday night as Tyler Herro made his highly anticipated season debut following ankle surgery. The 25-year-old shooting guard hadn’t played this regular season until now, having been sidelined since September. But he wasted no time making an impact, pouring in a team-high 24 points and grabbing seven rebounds to help the Heat secure a thrilling 106-102 victory over the Dallas Mavericks at the Kaseya Center.
Herro’s return could not have come at a better time for Miami. The game was tied late in the fourth quarter when he calmly drained a crucial floater, breaking the deadlock and giving the Heat the edge they would hold until the final buzzer. His shooting was impressive throughout the night, converting 12 of his 18 attempts from the field, and his presence on the court immediately energized the team.

“It felt amazing,” Herro said during the broadcast. “These guys have been having a lot of fun all season. It feels good to just be out here with them, to be part of it, be in the mix a little bit. It was a lot of fun, glad we got the dub.”
The Heat’s supporting cast also stepped up. Kel’el Ware contributed a double-double with 20 points and 18 rebounds, while Bam Adebayo added 16 points and provided key defensive plays. Despite missing Nikola Jović and Andrew Wiggins due to injuries, Miami extended their winning streak to five games, four of which came against teams with records above .500. This run has helped the Heat maintain a top-ranked offense, leading the NBA with 124.9 points per game heading into Monday night’s matchup.
On the other side, the Mavericks were led by P.J. Washington, who scored 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Max Christie chipped in 15 points, and Cooper Flagg added 12 points with seven rebounds. However, Dallas struggled to close out the game and fell to 5-14 with the loss, marking four defeats in their last five outings.
Herro’s journey with the Heat has been remarkable. After being drafted 13th overall in 2019, he began as a bench shooter but gradually developed into one of the team’s brightest stars. His breakout came in his third season, earning him the Sixth Man of the Year award, and last season he reached a new peak, averaging a career-high 23.9 points and making his first NBA All-Star Game appearance. Monday’s performance showed that he has picked up right where he left off, bringing skill, confidence, and energy back to Miami’s lineup.
With Herro healthy and contributing again, the Heat look poised to continue their strong start to the season and remain a serious contender in the Eastern Conference. Monday night’s win over Dallas was not just a victory on the scoreboard—it was a statement that Miami’s core is back and ready to compete at the highest level.
