Waterloo Region Gears Up for 2025 Santa Claus Parades

This weekend, the festive spirit is set to sweep across Waterloo Region as Santa Claus parades return to Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge, bringing excitement for families and holiday enthusiasts alike. Even though the snow that briefly dusted the area earlier this week didn’t stick around, the region is buzzing with anticipation for the holiday celebrations.

The Kitchener-Waterloo Santa Claus Parade will kick off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, traveling along Weber Street from Frederick Street in Kitchener all the way up to Erb Street in Waterloo. Colorful floats, marching bands, and local performers will be featured along the route, giving spectators a chance to catch a glimpse of Santa waving from his float and enjoy the cheerful atmosphere. Later in the evening, Cambridge will host its own parade, starting at 6 p.m. along Hespeler Road, stretching from Dunbar Road to Langs Drive.

Weather conditions are expected to be a bit unpredictable, according to 570’s Weather Specialist Denise Andreacchi. Saturday may feel more like a wet autumn day rather than a winter wonderland, with highs around 11 degrees Celsius and the possibility of thunderstorms. Sunday, on the other hand, could bring a taste of winter back to the region, with flurries in the forecast and winds gusting between 60 to 70 kilometers per hour, alongside temperatures dropping to a high of just 5 degrees and a low near minus one.

For those looking to extend the holiday fun beyond the parades, there are plenty of activities happening across the region. Santa Claus will be visiting local malls, including Conestoga Mall in Waterloo and Stone Road Mall in Guelph, giving children a chance for festive photos. Holiday markets are also opening their doors, including the Rockway Christmas Market at the Rockway Centre in Kitchener and the Snowflake Bazaar at the Breithaupt Centre, both starting on Saturday morning.

Even for those who might not consider themselves holiday enthusiasts, the season is being celebrated in creative ways across the community. CHYM 96.7, 570 NewsRadio’s sister station, has already kicked off a round of Christmas music to spread cheer and get everyone into the holiday mood.

Overall, despite the uncertain weather, the 2025 Santa Claus parades and accompanying festivities promise a weekend full of joy, family fun, and the magical sights and sounds that signal the start of the Christmas season in Waterloo Region. Families are encouraged to bundle up, head out early, and join in the celebration as the region comes alive with holiday cheer.
