Adelaide United End Goal Drought With Five-Goal Blitz Against Wanderers
If there was ever a perfect response to pressure, Adelaide United delivered it in style. In sweltering conditions at Coopers Stadium, Adelaide finally put an end to their recent goal drought with a commanding 5–2 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers, earning their first win in four matches and doing it with real authority.
From the opening whistle, intent was shown by Adelaide. Just like the previous week, they pushed forward early, but this time the breakthrough actually arrived. The heat was intense, drinks breaks were required, and yet the tempo never really dropped. Just before that first drinks break, the deadlock was broken when defender Emily Hodgson found the net for the first time this season. She was perfectly placed to finish Adriana Taranto’s low, driven cutback from the right, and suddenly the home crowd had something to celebrate.

Confidence visibly grew from that moment. Not long after, Adelaide doubled their lead in spectacular fashion. Midfielder Paige Zois launched a looping effort from range, and it sailed beautifully into the goal, leaving the Wanderers stunned. Before Western Sydney could regroup, a third goal was added. Erin Healy showed quick feet and composure, weaving her way through defenders before finishing neatly to make it 3–0 by halftime.
The Wanderers did show fight after the break. Substitute Allyssa Ng-Saad made an immediate impact, pulling one back just minutes after coming on. Adelaide keeper Ilona Melegh was caught off her line, and the goal briefly shifted momentum. However, any thoughts of a comeback were soon cooled.
Just before the second drinks break, Adelaide striker Chelsie Dawber struck her first goal of the season, firing a first-time shot from the edge of the box to restore a comfortable lead. Western Sydney responded again when Chloe Berryhill scored her first Wanderers goal, turning in Danika Matos’ low cross to make it 4–2 and keep the contest alive, at least momentarily.
The final word, though, belonged to Erin Healy. Completing a standout performance, she nodded home Paige Zois’ in-swinging free kick from the left, sealing her second goal of the match and Adelaide’s fifth of the afternoon.
By full time, it was clear this wasn’t just a win, it was a statement. Goals were flowing again, confidence was restored, and Adelaide United had delivered an emphatic reminder of just how dangerous they can be when everything clicks.
