Anthony Joshua Hurt in Tragic Nigeria Crash That Claimed Two Lives
What began as a routine day in Nigeria has turned into a deeply troubling story involving one of boxing’s biggest names. British heavyweight star Anthony Joshua has been injured in a serious car crash in Ogun State, Nigeria, an accident that sadly claimed the lives of two other people. The incident has sent shockwaves through the boxing world and beyond, especially given how suddenly it unfolded.
The crash happened on Monday morning along the busy Ogun–Lagos, also known as the Lagos-Ibadan, expressway. Local police confirmed that Joshua was travelling in a vehicle that collided with another vehicle, which was reportedly stationary at the time. While details are still being pieced together, authorities have said that two people lost their lives at the scene. Joshua, along with other injured individuals, was taken to hospital shortly after the crash.

It was initially reported by police that Joshua had suffered only minor injuries and was “fine,” but images and videos circulating on social media painted a more emotional picture of the aftermath. In those clips, Joshua can be seen sitting in the back of the damaged vehicle, surrounded by broken glass, clearly in discomfort as he attempted to get out. He appeared conscious throughout and was later seen being assisted by emergency responders, dressed only in shorts, as he was moved for medical care.
Witnesses told local media that Joshua had been seated behind the driver, with several other passengers in the vehicle. His security team was said to be travelling in a car behind him at the time of the crash. According to one eyewitness, the two people who died were passengers in the same vehicle as Joshua, a detail that has added to the tragedy of the situation.
Only hours before the accident, Joshua had posted a light-hearted video on social media showing him playing table tennis, a reminder of how quickly circumstances can change. The 36-year-old former world heavyweight champion has strong family ties to Sagamu, a town in Ogun State, and had been spending time in Nigeria following his recent boxing match with Jake Paul earlier this month.
An official investigation into the cause of the crash has now been ordered by the Ogun State Police Command. Officers have said they are working to confirm all details surrounding the incident and the exact sequence of events that led to the collision.
For now, the focus remains on Joshua’s recovery and on remembering the two lives lost in this tragic accident. As more information is expected to emerge, fans around the world are watching closely, hoping for Joshua’s full recovery while mourning a day that ended in heartbreak.
