Cam Coleman Set to Shake Up College Football With Transfer Portal Move
One of the biggest names in college football is about to hit the open market. Auburn wide receiver Cam Coleman is expected to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal when it opens on January 2, and the news has already sent a ripple through the sport. After two seasons with the Tigers, Coleman’s decision marks a major turning point for both his career and Auburn’s roster moving forward.
Coleman arrived on The Plains with massive expectations, and those expectations were largely met. He was considered one of the highest-rated recruits Auburn had landed in years, and his production backed it up. Over two seasons, 84 catches were recorded for more than 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns, numbers that stand out even more when Auburn’s struggles in the passing game are taken into account. Despite inconsistent quarterback play, Coleman was still relied upon as the offense’s most dangerous weapon.

During the 2025 season, his importance became even clearer. He finished with 56 receptions for just over 700 yards and five touchdowns, accounting for a huge portion of Auburn’s total passing output. Nearly half of the team’s passing touchdowns went his way, showing how central he was to the Tigers’ offense. It was often felt that, when Auburn needed a big play, Coleman was the first option.
Behind the scenes, Auburn’s new coaching staff under Alex Golesh reportedly made a strong effort to keep him from entering the portal. Still, college football’s version of free agency proved too tempting, and Coleman is now set to become one of the most sought-after players in the country. With two years of eligibility remaining, his value could not be much higher.
His pedigree only adds to the intrigue. As a high school prospect, Coleman was a Five-Star Plus recruit and ranked among the top five players nationally. He originally committed to Texas A&M before flipping to Auburn in late 2023, a move that was celebrated as a huge recruiting win at the time. Now, just over a year later, his next destination is once again up for debate.
Coleman’s departure is also part of a much larger shift at Auburn. More than 20 players from the roster have announced plans to enter the portal, including several key contributors on both offense and defense. The wide receiver room, once touted as one of the nation’s best, is being almost completely turned over.
Across the country, contenders are already circling. Programs like Oklahoma have been mentioned as potential suitors, and it’s easy to see why. With his size, speed, and ability to win at every level of the field, Coleman is viewed by many as a future first-round NFL draft pick. Wherever he lands, expectations will be high, and college football’s balance of power could shift just a little more when Cam Coleman makes his next move.
