Chicoutimi Secures Veteran Defenseman Jordan Tourigny in Key Trade

In a strategic move to strengthen their roster, the Saguenéens de Chicoutimi made a significant trade on December 28, 2025, acquiring 20-year-old defenseman Jordan Tourigny from the Shawinigan Cataractes. This transaction was confirmed by the team’s general manager and head coach, Yanick Jean, as he bolstered his squad ahead of the second half of the season.

Tourigny, a seasoned veteran with five seasons of experience in the QMJHL, has been a crucial part of Shawinigan’s championship-winning team from 2022. This year, he has posted 5 goals and 18 assists in 28 games with the Cataractes. With 176 points in 291 career games, Tourigny’s leadership and skill on the ice are well established. His acquisition adds a valuable veteran presence to the Saguenéens’ defense as they aim to continue their push for success in the league.

In return, Chicoutimi parted ways with 18-year-old defenseman Jonathan Prud’homme, alongside a first-round pick in the 2027 draft, which will be added to complete the trade at a future selection meeting. This trade is part of a larger effort by the Saguenéens to refine their roster for the upcoming games, including another recent acquisition of goaltender Lucas Beckman from the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.

Tourigny is expected to make an immediate impact, with his first game for the Saguenéens set for later that afternoon in Blainville-Boisbriand against the Armada. Fans are excited to see how the new addition will fit into the team’s defense alongside other recent signings, including Tomas Lavoie, Alexis Bernier, and Mavrick Lachance.

With these key additions, the Saguenéens are looking to maintain their strong performance and deepen their lineup as they chase further success in the QMJHL this season.
