Deepti Sharma Cleared for Third T20I as India Dominate Sri Lanka Series
So, there’s some positive news coming out of the Indian women’s cricket camp ahead of the third T20I against Sri Lanka, and it revolves around Deepti Sharma. India’s dependable off-spin all-rounder has been declared fully fit and available for selection, which was officially confirmed by head coach Amol Muzumdar on the eve of the match. This update brings relief, especially considering how important Deepti has been to India’s balance in recent years.
Deepti had missed the second T20I in Visakhapatnam due to a mild fever. That match, however, was comfortably won by India by seven wickets, extending their dominance in the five-match series. During her brief illness, her recovery was closely monitored by the BCCI medical team, and it was later confirmed that there were no lingering concerns. Muzumdar made it clear during the pre-match press conference that Deepti was “absolutely fine” and ready to return to action if selected.

India currently lead the series 2-0, placing them in a commanding position. Despite the strong start, the team management has continued to experiment with combinations. One noticeable name yet to feature in the series is pacer Renuka Singh Thakur. Muzumdar explained that her absence wasn’t due to injury or loss of form, but rather part of a broader strategy to test different combinations within the squad. Renuka, according to the coach, remains an integral part of the setup and has been a key figure for India over the past couple of years.
There was also a minor update regarding Jemimah Rodrigues, who has been in fine form. After scoring an unbeaten 69 in the second T20I and contributing 26 in the first, Jemimah missed the practice session ahead of the third game. It was clarified that this was purely precautionary. She reportedly had a small issue, nothing serious, and was rested as part of a routine, mandatory recovery process. The medical staff continues to monitor her condition closely, and confidence has been expressed that she will be fine.
As for the playing XI, no final decisions have been announced yet. Muzumdar stated that the team would be selected on the morning of the match, keeping flexibility in mind based on conditions and player readiness.
Overall, the mood in the Indian camp appears calm and confident. With Deepti Sharma back in contention, key players being carefully managed, and a 2-0 lead already secured, India seem well-placed to push for another strong performance against Sri Lanka in the third T20I.
