Dyche Returns to Everton as Forest Seek Vital Premier League Win
Everton fans will see a familiar face this Saturday as Nottingham Forest head to Goodison Park, with Sean Dyche returning to the club where he spent two turbulent years. Dyche, who helped Everton avoid relegation twice despite a difficult period that included an eight-point deduction, has said he is focused entirely on inspiring his current team rather than worrying about the reception from his former club’s supporters.
Reflecting on his time at Everton, Dyche admitted it was a challenging chapter. He described navigating the club through that “messy period” as a source of pride. By the end of his tenure in January 2025, Dyche believed a change of leadership might benefit Everton, and he left on good terms, confident in the work he and his staff had accomplished. “We navigated a way through it,” he explained, emphasizing that his priority now lies solely with Forest.

Dyche’s focus has clearly been effective. Nottingham Forest’s recent 1-0 win at Wolves has been praised as a sign that he has steadied the ship at the City Ground. Forest are looking more secure in their Premier League status, and Dyche’s experience in managing difficult situations is expected to be crucial as they aim for a comfortable season finish. Despite this, former Everton striker Chris Sutton has predicted a very tight encounter on Saturday, giving Everton the edge in what could be a narrow 1-0 win.
Interestingly, Dyche has also maintained a positive relationship with his successor at Everton, David Moyes. He acknowledged Moyes’s efforts in strengthening the squad, noting that investment was necessary and well-handled. Dyche described Moyes as a figure he respects, sharing that he had sought advice from him in the past and continues to admire his approach to management.
On the pitch, Forest face a small concern with defender Murillo, who has been affected by a virus and missed recent training sessions. The squad will hope for his recovery in time to bolster Dyche’s side.
As the teams prepare for the clash, all eyes will be on Dyche and how his side performs against his former club. While the reception from Everton fans remains uncertain, the former manager has made it clear that his mind is fully on Forest’s performance, not on personal applause or recognition. Saturday promises an intense, closely fought Premier League battle, with history and professional respect intertwining under the Goodison Park lights.
