From Olympic Slopes to Global Manhunt: FBI Seizes $40M in Ryan Wedding Motorcycles
Right now, there’s a striking development in the long-running case surrounding Ryan Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder whose life has taken a dramatic and disturbing turn. The FBI has just released images of dozens of high-end motorcycles seized in Mexico, and authorities believe these luxury machines belong to Wedding himself. According to the FBI, the collection is estimated to be worth around $40 million, and the photos alone paint a picture of extreme wealth tied to an international criminal investigation.
The motorcycles were seized earlier this month during coordinated raids carried out by Mexican authorities in Mexico City and the nearby State of Mexico. In total, 62 high-end motorcycles were recovered, along with other valuable items including vehicles, artwork, ammunition, drugs, documents, and even two Olympic medals. While officials did not confirm whether those medals were Wedding’s, the symbolism was hard to ignore, given his past as a Canadian athlete who competed at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

These seizures were described as the result of close cooperation between Mexican law enforcement, the FBI, the Los Angeles Police Department, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Images released by the FBI show rows of pristine motorcycles, some bearing racing numbers and well-known luxury brand markings, reinforcing the idea that this was not a casual collection, but part of a lavish lifestyle allegedly funded by crime.
Wedding, now 44, is currently on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. He is accused of running a massive transnational drug trafficking operation that allegedly moved cocaine from Colombia, through Mexico and Southern California, and onward into Canada and other destinations. Prosecutors say the operation generated enormous profits, which were then laundered into luxury assets like motorcycles and cars spread across multiple countries.
The case against Wedding goes far beyond drug charges. He has been indicted in U.S. federal court on multiple counts, including running a continuing criminal enterprise and committing murder in connection with that enterprise. New allegations announced in November claim he ordered the killing of a key witness in the federal case. That witness was reportedly shot multiple times at a restaurant in Colombia earlier this year, a crime that has intensified the global effort to track Wedding down.
Authorities believe Wedding is still hiding in Mexico and may be under the protection of the Sinaloa cartel. To increase pressure, the U.S. State Department is now offering a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to his arrest or conviction. For investigators, the seizure of these motorcycles is being seen not just as a financial blow, but as a visible reminder of how far this former Olympian has fallen, from representing his country on snow-covered slopes to becoming the focus of one of the most serious international manhunts underway today.
