Hollywood Brown’s Chiefs Future Looks Uncertain as Broncos Game Nears
As the Kansas City Chiefs get set for a prime-time Week 17 clash against the Denver Broncos, all eyes are quietly drifting toward Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, and not just because of what he might do on the field Thursday night. This matchup, scheduled for December 25 at 8:15 p.m. ET, feels like more than just another late-season game. For Brown, it’s shaping up to be a defining moment in what has been a frustrating and underwhelming season in Kansas City.
The good news, at least on paper, is that Brown is healthy. He isn’t listed on the injury report, which means availability won’t be an excuse. That matters, especially with the Chiefs already dealing with injuries to other receivers and juggling offensive inconsistency. The opportunity has been there, and it has been given repeatedly. The results, however, have not matched the expectations.

Brown’s 2025 season numbers tell a story that Chiefs fans didn’t expect when he arrived. Through 14 games, he has totaled 45 catches on 65 targets for 516 yards and five touchdowns. Those numbers might look serviceable at first glance, but they come with a concerning detail: he’s averaging just 36.9 yards per game, a career low. For a player who was supposed to bring speed, explosiveness, and big-play potential to Patrick Mahomes’ offense, that simply hasn’t been enough.
Week 16 against the Tennessee Titans may have been the turning point. With other receivers sidelined, Brown was given one of his largest snap shares of the season and saw multiple targets for the first time in weeks. Yet the production didn’t follow. He finished with just three receptions for 22 yards, with most of that coming on a single 18-yard play. Against a Titans defense that had recently allowed big receiving days to multiple players, more was expected. It wasn’t delivered.
Context does soften the criticism slightly. Mahomes was out, the offensive line was banged up, and backup quarterbacks were forced into action. Still, when a player is fighting for his future, flashes matter, and those flashes were missing. Brown was supposed to be a difference-maker, especially in moments like these.
Now, as the Chiefs head toward the end of a disappointing season and face serious salary-cap challenges, tough decisions are looming. With limited flexibility and many roster spots to evaluate, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Brown hasn’t made a strong enough case to be part of the team’s future. He may find interest elsewhere in the league, but in Kansas City, patience appears to be running out.
