Jason Momoa’s Gritty Series The Red Road Makes a Surprise Netflix Comeback
There’s a bit of unexpected but welcome news for Jason Momoa fans, especially those who remember his early television work. After being gone for nearly six years, the intense crime drama The Red Road has quietly returned to Netflix, and it’s already available to stream again. As of December 26, both seasons of the series are back, bringing all 12 episodes to viewers in the US and several international regions for the first time ever.
The show originally aired between 2014 and 2015 on SundanceTV, which later became part of AMC. It first landed on Netflix back in 2015 but was eventually removed in November 2019 when its licensing deal expired. Now, thanks to a renewed and expanded agreement between Netflix and AMC, the series has been added back into the library. Many AMC titles have been included under this deal, and The Red Road is one of the more surprising returns, especially considering how long it had been unavailable.
However, this comeback may not be permanent. It’s understood that the series has only been licensed for around six months this time, meaning it could potentially leave Netflix again by late June 2026 if the deal isn’t extended. It’s also worth noting that viewers on Netflix’s ad-supported tier may run into an issue, as several AMC titles, including this one, are currently blocked on that plan.

For anyone unfamiliar with the show, The Red Road
Jason Momoa plays Phillip Kopus, a charismatic and unpredictable member of the Ramapough Lenape tribe, long before he became a global star through Game of Thrones , Aquaman , and Dune . Alongside him is Martin Henderson as Sheriff Harold Jensen, a man trying to hold his family and community together while navigating the fallout of that central tragedy. Strong performances from Julianne Nicholson and Tom Sizemore further add weight to the story.
With its raw tone and powerful performances, The Red Road feels like a time capsule of Jason Momoa’s rise, and its return gives both longtime fans and new viewers a chance to rediscover a series that flew under the radar for many years.
