So, here’s the update fans have been waiting for — Jenny Han has officially confirmed that the movie script for The Summer I Turned Pretty is done. Yes, completely finished. She shared the news during TheWrap’s 2025 Power Women Summit, and you could almost feel the collective excitement from everyone who has followed Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah through three seasons of emotional chaos.

But before anyone gets too hyped: the movie hasn’t started filming yet. Jenny said she literally just finished writing the script, and because production on Season 3 took her all the way through filming in 2024 and post-production until June 2025, there simply wasn’t any window to start shooting a full-length movie. The show itself only dropped in July, so the team was working right up to the wire. Naturally, the Christmas 2025 release fans were secretly (or not-so-secretly) hoping for is just not possible.

Still, the film is very much happening. And what makes it even more exciting is that Jenny Han will be directing it herself. She made her TV directorial debut during Season 3 and said the shift to directing felt natural after years of creating this world with the cast and crew. Now she’ll be making her feature-film directorial debut, which she described as a privilege — getting to be the one who tells the story all the way through.

Although she didn’t confirm the plot, the loudest speculation among fans is that the movie will focus on Belly and Conrad’s wedding, especially after how Season 3 wrapped. Jenny didn’t spoil anything, but she did share that she’s been drawing inspiration from classic romantic comedies — think Nora Ephron vibes, movies like Sleepless in Seattle , You’ve Got Mail , and Bridget Jones’s Diary . She said she misses that style of storytelling, and she’s having a lot of fun planning the film with those influences in mind.

As for her book fans wondering when she’ll return to writing novels, she was honest — she wants to, but she’s just incredibly busy. Running a show for three seasons was basically a year-round job. And writing a book, she said, requires her to disappear into this quiet, almost meditative flow state. With constant meetings, casting calls, and production deadlines, slipping into that kind of mindset just hasn’t been possible. She still has a couple of books in progress, plus a few other movies and shows she’s developing, so her schedule isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

In short: the script is done, filming hasn’t started, the release date is still unknown, and Jenny Han is juggling more creative projects than ever — but the movie is coming, and she’s genuinely excited to bring it to life.
