MacKinnon Sparks Late Rally as Avalanche Storm Past Kraken in Seattle

So here’s how this one unfolded, and it was a wild swing of momentum by the end. The Colorado Avalanche once again showed why they’re one of the most dangerous teams in the league right now, rallying past the Seattle Kraken for a 5–3 win at Climate Pledge Arena. What looked like a tight, back-and-forth game early was ultimately taken over by Nathan MacKinnon, who delivered two goals and an assist to power Colorado to its third straight victory.

The Avalanche were made to work for it. Colorado struck first in the opening period when Artturi Lehkonen opened the scoring after a shot from Martin Necas glanced off him and floated over Philipp Grubauer’s glove. But Seattle answered in the second period, and the building came alive. Shane Wright tied the game after crashing the net and swatting in a loose puck, and soon after, Jordan Eberle gave the Kraken a 2–1 lead by pouncing on a rebound at the top of the crease.

Colorado didn’t fold. Samuel Girard pulled the Avalanche even late in the second period with a clean one-timer, but the Kraken regained control just before the break. Chandler Stephenson was credited with a power-play goal after his attempted pass deflected off a defender and slipped through Mackenzie Blackwood, sending Seattle into the third period up 3–2.

That’s when the game completely turned. MacKinnon tied it early in the third with a blistering one-timer that beat Grubauer cleanly, and from that moment on, the ice tilted in Colorado’s favor. Seattle was given a huge chance to respond when they were awarded a penalty shot midway through the period, but Eberle rang his attempt off the post, and that miss proved costly.

Moments later, Brock Nelson put Colorado ahead for good on the power play, finishing off a fortunate bounce that left him with an open net. From there, the Avalanche locked things down defensively. MacKinnon sealed the result with an empty-net goal in the final minute, capping a dominant third period and a three-point night.

By the end, Colorado had extended its point streak to six games, while Seattle’s struggles continued with another loss added to a tough stretch. Mackenzie Blackwood was solid with 34 saves, and key contributions were spread throughout the Avalanche lineup. Still, this night belonged to MacKinnon, whose speed, confidence, and finishing touch once again showed why Colorado is rolling and why opponents are finding it harder and harder to hold them off when the game is on the line.
