Max Verstappen’s Racing Team Makes a Bold Mercedes Move for 2026
There’s been a lot of noise lately around Max Verstappen and Mercedes, and before anyone jumps to Formula 1 conclusions, this story is actually about something just as fascinating happening off the F1 grid. Max Verstappen’s GT operation, Verstappen Racing, has officially signed a multi-year deal with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, starting from the 2026 season. And honestly, this is a pretty big statement of intent.
What’s been confirmed is that Verstappen Racing will continue competing in the GT World Challenge Europe, but with a major change under the hood. From 2026 onward, the team will switch to the Mercedes-AMG GT3, running both the Sprint Cup and the Endurance Cup. The programme won’t be handled alone either, as the experienced outfit 2 Seas Motorsport will be responsible for running the cars, bringing proven GT3 know-how into the project.

From Mercedes’ side, the move has been welcomed with open arms. It’s been described as an ambitious and promising project, backed by a team that already knows how to win championships with Mercedes machinery. That alone tells you this isn’t a casual partnership. It’s been built with long-term success very much in mind.
On the driver front, continuity and experience have been carefully balanced. Chris Lulham, who has been part of Verstappen Racing’s GT journey, will return for a second Sprint Cup season. This time, he’ll be joined by Daniel Juncadella, a driver with deep experience in GT racing and a strong history with Mercedes-AMG cars. Together, they’ll tackle five Sprint Cup rounds at some of Europe’s most iconic circuits.
The Endurance Cup line-up looks even stronger on paper. Alongside Lulham and Juncadella, Mercedes-AMG performance driver Jules Gounon will step in for the longer races, including the legendary 24 Hours of Spa. His involvement adds factory-level expertise, and it’s been suggested that this combination has everything needed to be competitive right from the start.
What really stands out here is the influence Max Verstappen continues to have beyond Formula 1. While his F1 future often dominates headlines, this move shows how seriously he’s building his racing ecosystem. Factory backing, a top-tier manufacturer, a proven team, and a strong driver line-up have all been put in place.
As 2026 approaches, Verstappen Racing’s switch to Mercedes-AMG feels less like an experiment and more like a clear signal. This is a project designed to win, and it’s being treated exactly that way from day one.
