Russell Brand Faces New Rape and Sexual Assault Charges as Legal Case Expands
There’s been another major development in the ongoing legal case involving Russell Brand, as UK police have now confirmed that the comedian and actor has been charged with two additional offences, including one count of rape and one count of sexual assault. These new charges were authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service and relate to allegations made by two separate women, with the alleged incidents said to have taken place in 2009.
This comes on top of the five charges Brand was already facing, which include two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault involving four women. In relation to those earlier allegations, Brand has already entered not-guilty pleas. He is now due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 20 January 2026 to answer the two newly added charges.

The wider investigation began back in September 2023, after allegations were made public through reporting by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches. Following that reporting, detectives from the Metropolitan Police launched a detailed investigation into historical claims spanning several years. According to prosecutors, the original five charges relate to alleged incidents that took place between 1999 and 2005 in locations including central London and Bournemouth.
It has been alleged that one woman was raped in Bournemouth in 1999, while another was indecently assaulted in Westminster in 2001. Further allegations include a sexual assault said to have occurred between 2004 and 2005, as well as claims of oral rape and sexual assault involving another woman in Westminster in 2004. A trial for those five original charges is currently scheduled to begin at Southwark Crown Court on 16 June 2026.
Police have stressed that the women who have come forward are being supported by specially trained officers throughout the legal process. Meanwhile, Brand has consistently denied any non-consensual behaviour. After the initial charges were announced earlier this year, he publicly acknowledged past struggles with sex addiction and poor behaviour in his younger years, but strongly rejected the accusations, stating that he had never been a rapist.
Russell Brand, who was born in Essex and later became one of Britain’s most recognisable media personalities, rose to fame as a stand-up comedian before becoming a household name through television and radio. He later transitioned into Hollywood, starring in films such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek. As the legal process continues, the case is being closely followed, with further court appearances and a lengthy trial now firmly on the horizon.
