Samsung’s One UI 8.5 Beta Brings Big Visual and Smart Feature Upgrades
Samsung’s new One UI 8.5 beta has just arrived, and even though the full release is months away, the update is already shaping up to be one of the most meaningful refinements we’ve seen in the One UI line. As I walk through what’s new, you’ll notice that this update isn’t just about adding features—it’s about polishing the entire Galaxy experience, making daily tasks feel smoother, smarter, and more intuitive.
One of the biggest upgrades is the fully customizable Quick Panel. If you remember how One UI 8 introduced the split Quick Settings layout, 8.5 now gives you the freedom to rearrange almost every toggle and slider. The layout can be tailored completely, and the interface for adding new controls feels cleaner and easier to navigate. It’s the kind of upgrade that seems small at first but quickly becomes essential once you start using it.

The My Files app also gets a couple of major enhancements. The first is “Storage Share,” a feature that lets your phone access files from other nearby Samsung phones, tablets, laptops, or even your TV. What’s convenient is that the other device doesn’t need to be on One UI 8.5; it just has to approve the request. On top of that, leaked firmware shows a new “Short summary” option coming soon. This means your phone will automatically generate a quick preview of PDF and TXT files before you open them—perfect for those documents with vague file names.
Daily-use apps see thoughtful improvements too. The Clock app now allows weather-based alarm backgrounds, so the moment your alarm rings, you instantly see whether you’re waking up to sunshine or rain. A new time zone converter helps you compare regions with a simple slider, and Samsung Health now combines more data—like medications and mindfulness sessions—into weekly reports. Even workouts can be shared more creatively, blending stats with photos.
Accessibility, security, and device connections have been tuned up as well. New hearing aid controls are easier to reach, partial screen recording is now possible, and battery settings have been redesigned to make usage insights clearer. Even DeX remembers window sizes again, which is a small but welcome touch.
Altogether, One UI 8.5 isn’t just another beta—it feels like a meaningful step forward, blending design polish with practical enhancements that users will feel every day.
