Seahawks Stun Rams with Incredible OT Comeback to Take NFC West Lead

If you missed Thursday night football, this one was absolutely wild. The Seattle Seahawks pulled off one of their most dramatic wins of the season, rallying from a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Los Angeles Rams 38–37 in overtime and move into sole possession of first place in the NFC West.

For most of the night, it looked like the Rams were in control. Matthew Stafford was dealing, the offense was moving the ball at will, and Seattle was struggling to keep pace. Late in the third quarter and early in the fourth, the scoreboard told a worrying story for Seahawks fans, with Seattle trailing 30–14 and momentum firmly on Los Angeles’ side.

But this game flipped in a way only football can deliver. A spark was finally provided when Rashid Shaheed returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown, instantly waking up the stadium. Sam Darnold then connected with Cooper Kupp for a successful two-point conversion, and suddenly the gap felt manageable. From there, the Seahawks’ defense began to tighten up, forcing stops when it mattered most.

Another Rams possession fizzled out, and Darnold capitalized by finding tight end AJ Barner for a 26-yard touchdown. What followed was one of the strangest and most memorable moments of the season. On a two-point attempt, Darnold’s pass was deflected and initially ruled incomplete. After review, it was determined to be a backward pass. Zach Charbonnet, who had casually picked up the loose ball in the end zone, was awarded the conversion, tying the game at 30 and sending it to overtime.

The drama wasn’t done. The Rams struck first in overtime when Stafford hit Puka Nacua, who raced 41 yards untouched for a touchdown. At that point, it felt like Seattle’s miracle run might finally be over. Instead, Darnold calmly led the Seahawks back down the field, throwing a touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Seattle then went for the win, and Darnold delivered again, finding a wide-open Eric Saubert for the decisive two-point conversion.

Despite being intercepted twice and facing constant pressure, Darnold finished with 270 passing yards and two touchdowns, making the clutch throws when they were needed most. Smith-Njigba came alive after a quiet start, while the Seahawks’ defense made key stops late, forcing punts and a missed field goal that kept the comeback alive.

With the win, Seattle improved to 12–3, clinched a playoff spot, and put itself in position for the NFC’s top seed. The Rams, despite a massive night from Stafford and Nacua, were left stunned and now face a tougher road in the playoff race. It was a comeback that will be talked about in Seattle for a long time.
