Stefon Diggs Faces Serious Legal Challenge Amid Patriots Playoff Push
Right now, a serious and unsettling story is unfolding around New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs, and it has quickly become one of the biggest talking points in the NFL. Diggs, one of the league’s most recognizable stars and a key piece of the Patriots’ offense this season, has been charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery following an alleged incident that reportedly took place on December 2.
According to police reports, the accusations stem from a dispute between Diggs and a woman who identified herself as his personal chef. It was claimed that the disagreement began over payment terms. The woman told authorities that she was originally supposed to be paid weekly by wire transfer but was instead being paid monthly, and that she still believed she was owed a month’s wages. During the argument, it was alleged that Diggs struck her and placed his hands around her neck, making it difficult for her to breathe and causing her to feel lightheaded.

Text messages included in the police report were said to show escalating tension between the two, with the alleged victim demanding payment and Diggs responding dismissively. After the alleged incident, it was also claimed that Diggs sent messages asking her to sign a non-disclosure agreement, adding another layer of scrutiny to the situation.
Diggs appeared remotely in court, where his legal team attempted to have the police report sealed. His attorney told the judge that efforts were being made to reach a financial settlement with the alleged victim, emphasizing that discussions were ongoing. At the same time, Diggs’ defense has been firm and unwavering. His attorneys have categorically denied all allegations, describing them as unsubstantiated and uncorroborated. It has been argued that the claims were motivated by an unresolved employer-employee financial dispute and that the alleged incident never occurred.
The New England Patriots have acknowledged the situation and released a statement confirming that they are aware of the accusations. The team said Diggs has informed them that he denies the allegations and that the organization supports him while continuing to cooperate with authorities and the NFL. The league itself has also confirmed awareness of the matter but has declined further comment.
An arraignment has been scheduled for January 23, a date that carries added significance. If the Patriots advance deep into the playoffs, it would fall just days before the AFC Championship Game. For Diggs, the timing could hardly be more complicated. On the field, he has been a major contributor in his first season with New England, recording 82 receptions for 970 yards and four touchdowns, while helping the team push for a top seed.
As the legal process moves forward, the case casts a long shadow over both Diggs’ career and the Patriots’ postseason hopes. For now, the focus remains on the courts, where the truth of what happened is expected to be determined in the weeks ahead.
