TGL Season 2 Returns with Big Changes, Big Names, and High Expectations
If you’re a golf fan, today marks the start of something that feels both familiar and completely new. TGL Season 2 is officially underway, and all eyes are back on South Florida as Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s tech-driven golf league begins its second chapter. The opening match brings a rematch of last season’s finals, with New York Golf Club facing off against defending champions Atlanta Drive, and there’s a sense that this year is about proving TGL is here to stay.
The action is once again being staged inside the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, but the arena won’t look exactly the same. Several changes have been made since last season, including a larger putting green, fewer but more dramatic bunkers, and completely redesigned holes. Each team now has its own signature holes, which is expected to add personality and strategy to every matchup. These tweaks were introduced after feedback from players and fans, and they’re meant to make matches feel faster, sharper, and more entertaining.

On the competitive side, familiar faces are returning. Atlanta Drive’s championship trio of Billy Horschel, Lucas Glover, and Patrick Cantlay is back to begin their title defense. New York Golf Club, meanwhile, is looking for revenge after falling short in the inaugural finals. However, a couple of big names will be missing at the start. Justin Thomas is sidelined as he continues recovering from back surgery, and Tiger Woods is also unavailable early in the season for the same reason. Even so, the league still features an impressive lineup of stars spread across six teams.
The format remains one of TGL’s biggest talking points. Matches are played across 15 holes, split between team-based alternate shot play and head-to-head singles. Full swings are hit into a massive simulator screen, while short-game shots and putting happen on a rotating, adjustable green inside the venue. The pace is kept tight with a shot clock, limited timeouts, and the strategic use of the “hammer,” which can double the value of a hole if both teams agree to play it out.
Today’s opener begins at 3 p.m. Eastern, with the match airing live on ABC. For viewers who prefer streaming, the action can be watched through ESPN’s app or on Fubo. As the season unfolds over the next three months, the schedule leads toward playoffs in March, with semifinals and a finals series set to close out the campaign.
With raised expectations, fresh designs, and unfinished business from last year, TGL Season 2 isn’t just about entertainment anymore. It’s about showing that this bold experiment can earn a permanent place in the modern golf landscape.
