Tributes Pour In After the Sudden Death of Sports Presenter Duncan McKenzie-McHarg
News has emerged that has left the Australian sports and media community in shock. Duncan McKenzie-McHarg, a well-known Australian sports presenter who had built a successful career overseas, has died in Los Angeles at the age of just 41. It was reported by local US media that he was formally pronounced dead last Wednesday, LA time, and the confirmation has since sparked an outpouring of grief and heartfelt tributes.
At the time of his death, McKenzie-McHarg had been working with Australian streaming service Stan, where he had become a familiar and respected face, particularly through his involvement in grand slam tennis coverage. McKenzie-McHarg’s journey in media began in Melbourne. His first major break came in 2010 when he worked on Triple M’s Hot Breakfast alongside Eddie McGuire. It was recalled that he studied journalism at Monash University and quickly stood out for his natural charm and kind nature. McGuire later described the news of his death as heartbreaking and devastating, saying Duncan’s ability to turn his positivity into a career that connected him with some of the world’s biggest stars was deeply admired by those who knew him from the early days.
His career continued to grow as he worked as a freelancer for Channel Seven, then as a reporter for Channel Ten, before making a major move overseas in 2017 to become Fox Sports’ US correspondent. Life in Los Angeles was often described by Duncan as challenging but rewarding. In a past interview, he spoke about waking up to sunshine most days and embracing the lifestyle, even while working long hours in a highly competitive industry.
His family later confirmed his passing in a deeply emotional statement. He was remembered as a deeply loved son, a devoted father to his young son Harrison, and a cherished brother.
