Right now, there’s a lot of conversation around Walton Goggins, and it’s easy to see why. He’s quietly had one of those rare Hollywood years where everything seems to line up perfectly. Between major TV hits and standout performances, his presence has been felt everywhere — from post-apocalyptic chaos in Fallout to the sharp, unsettling luxury of The White Lotus.

What makes this moment especially interesting is how grounded Goggins remains about it all, especially when it comes to family. Publicly, his role as Cooper Howard, also known as The Ghoul, in Prime Video’s Fallout has been widely praised. Fans of the video game adaptation have embraced his performance, and the show’s second season has only added to the buzz. But at home, things apparently play out a little differently — at least on the surface.

Goggins has joked that his teenage son, Augustus, refuses to openly admit that his dad’s roles are cool. That reluctance is chalked up to age more than anything else. Still, it has been acknowledged, with a laugh, that the benefits are definitely being enjoyed at school. Classmates are quick to point out that Augustus’ dad plays The Ghoul, even if Augustus tries to shut the conversation down immediately. The admiration is there, whether it’s admitted or not.

This year hasn’t just been about Fallout, either. Goggins wrapped up the Emmy-nominated final season of The Righteous Gemstones, saying goodbye to Baby Billy, a character that became a favorite in his own household. It was shared that many moments of joy came from him casually performing Baby Billy around the house, simply because the scripts were so funny. Those spontaneous performances, according to Goggins, became a strange but meaningful way he measured success — by the laughter of his wife and son.

On top of all that, he also appeared in Season 3 of Mike White’s The White Lotus, further cementing his reputation as an actor who can slide seamlessly between dark comedy, drama, and satire. Few performers manage to move between such wildly different worlds and still feel completely at home.

While Baby Billy may still hold a special place for his family, it seems clear that Goggins’ current run is something special. Even if his son won’t say it out loud, a cool dad moment is clearly being lived — one school hallway at a time.
