Wild Roll On With Dominant Shutout Win Over Capitals in St. Paul
So here’s what went down in St. Paul, and it was another strong statement from a Minnesota Wild team that just keeps getting hotter. The Wild delivered a convincing 5-0 shutout against the Washington Capitals, extending their winning streak to five games and continuing what has been an impressive run on home ice. From start to finish, this game felt firmly in Minnesota’s control.
The tone was set early. Vladimir Tarasenko wasted no time, putting the Wild ahead just over two minutes into the first period with a clean wrist shot from the top of the slot. That early goal seemed to calm everything down for Minnesota, and from there, the pressure was steadily applied. The Capitals had chances, but they were consistently turned away by Filip Gustavsson, who looked completely locked in between the pipes.

Gustavsson was perfect on the night, stopping all 25 shots he faced to earn his third shutout of the season. His calm, efficient play allowed the Wild to stay aggressive without fear of mistakes piling up behind them. It was one of those goaltending performances where every save felt routine, but the impact was massive.
Offensively, Tarasenko and rookie Danila Yurov stole the spotlight. Tarasenko finished the night with two goals and an assist, while Yurov added a goal and two assists of his own, marking the first three-point game of his young NHL career. Their chemistry showed up repeatedly, especially in the third period when the game was fully put out of reach.
Kirill Kaprizov added to the momentum with a power-play goal in the second period, cleaning up a rebound with a smooth backhand. That goal not only made it 2-0 at the time, but it also pushed Kaprizov into the Minnesota record books as the franchise leader in power-play goals. Matt Boldy later joined the scoring party, cutting into the slot on a rush and snapping home the final goal to cap off the 5-0 result.
For Washington, it was a frustrating night. Charlie Lindgren did what he could with 27 saves, but the Capitals struggled to generate sustained offense and have now dropped three straight games. Despite being one of the more consistent teams recently, this matchup highlighted how thin the margin can be against a confident, rolling opponent.
Even with adversity, including losing defenseman Daemon Hunt early due to injury, Minnesota stayed composed. The Wild looked fast, structured, and confident, and right now, they’re playing like a team no one wants to run into.
