Zegras’ Goal Streak Powers Flyers Past Canadiens 4-1
The Philadelphia Flyers ended a three-game skid in impressive fashion on Tuesday, storming past the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 at the Bell Centre. Trevor Zegras continued his scoring tear, netting a goal for the fourth straight game, while Travis Konecny contributed a goal and an assist. Carl Grundstrom and Bobby Brink also found the back of the net, helping the Flyers extend their point streak to five games despite coming off three consecutive losses.
Montreal started strong when Alexandre Texier scored late in the first period, giving the Canadiens a 1-0 lead. Texier, who has been enjoying a career resurgence, maneuvered down the left side of the slot and delivered a precise stick-side shot past Flyers goaltender Dan Vladar. But Philadelphia responded almost immediately. Grundstrom tied the game 1-1 with a slick backdoor wrist shot after a pass from Owen Tippett, setting the tone for a second-period surge.

Zegras then gave the Flyers the lead in his 300th NHL game, scoring on a 2-on-1 breakaway assisted by Konecny. Brink sealed the game later in the second with a goal off a turnover, showing the Flyers’ ability to capitalize on Montreal mistakes. Konecny wrapped things up with an empty-net goal in the final minutes, cementing the 4-1 victory. Vladar made 21 saves in net, while Sean Couturier added two assists to support the offensive effort.
For the Canadiens, Jacob Fowler made 17 saves in his third NHL start, but the team struggled to generate offense. Their play was hampered by the absence of defenseman Mike Matheson, who is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. The Canadiens were held to just ten shots through the first two periods, highlighting their difficulties against a disciplined Flyers squad. Montreal’s best performance came from young defenseman Lane Hutson, who logged a game-high 26:53 and consistently created opportunities despite heavy ice time.
The Flyers’ defensive structure and disciplined approach were on full display. Montreal found it difficult to break through, and the goals they conceded were the result of small miscommunications rather than a lack of effort. Zegras’ breakaway goal in particular showcased how quickly the Flyers could turn turnovers into scoring chances.
On a positive note for Montreal, Alexandre Texier has shown significant promise this season, fitting smoothly into Martin St. Louis’ system alongside Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield. Meanwhile, Samuel Montembeault is expected to begin a conditioning stint in Laval to regain his form, giving the Canadiens a chance to evaluate their goaltending depth while Fowler gains valuable NHL experience.
Overall, the Flyers’ 4-1 win highlighted the effectiveness of structured play, opportunistic scoring, and individual brilliance from players like Zegras and Konecny. For Montreal, the game served as a reminder of the adjustments needed on both offense and defense if they hope to climb back toward a winning record.
