Como FC in the Spotlight as Marco Sala Departs and Fabregas Faces Criticism
There has been plenty happening around Como FC lately, and it feels like the club is firmly in the spotlight both on and off the pitch. One of the key developments to be confirmed is the permanent transfer of defender Marco Sala to Avellino, a move that quietly brings an important chapter to a close for Como 1907.
Across two seasons in the Bianco Blu shirt, Sala made 38 appearances and was seen as a dependable presence in the back line. His contribution during the 2023–24 campaign stood out in particular, as he featured 29 times in a season that ultimately ended with Como achieving promotion to Serie A. That promotion run is still remembered fondly by supporters, and Sala was very much part of that story. His commitment and professionalism were publicly acknowledged by the club, and best wishes have been sent his way as he begins the next stage of his career with Avellino.

While player movement has been handled with calm and clarity, the noise around Como has also been driven by events in the dugout. Head coach Cesc FÃ bregas continues to attract attention, not just for results, but for his personality and approach. After guiding Como to Serie A safety last season, expectations were already high. This year, those expectations have been exceeded, with the team pushing toward the European places and sitting firmly among the league’s top sides. Attractive football has been played, and FÃ bregas’ reputation as a young coach on the rise has only grown.
However, not everyone has been impressed by everything that comes with that rise. AC Milan legend Alessandro Nesta has taken a swipe at FÃ bregas, recalling a meeting last season when his Monza side drew 1–1 with Como. It was suggested that FÃ bregas complained about Monza’s man-to-man defensive approach after the match, something Nesta clearly did not appreciate. With a mix of sarcasm and blunt honesty, Nesta joked that perhaps FÃ bregas should send Italian coaches a “fax” explaining how football should be played, if that would finally satisfy him.
Despite the jabs, respect has still been shown. Even Nesta acknowledged that FÃ bregas plays good football, and former teammate Pepe Reina has praised his deep knowledge, curiosity, and professionalism. Links to bigger clubs continue to circulate, but for now, FÃ bregas has remained calm, insisting his focus is fully on Como.
As the season moves forward, attention will stay fixed on how Como respond. With key players moving on, strong results on the pitch, and their coach never far from the headlines, it feels like this is another defining moment in the club’s modern journey.
