Eichel Breaks Toronto Hearts in OT as Golden Knights Stun Maple Leafs

Good evening, this was one of those hockey games that reminds you why people stay up late to watch the NHL.

In Las Vegas, the Golden Knights pulled off a dramatic comeback and stunned the Toronto Maple Leafs 6–5 in overtime and it was Jack Eichel who delivered the final blow. Just under three minutes into OT, Eichel ended it, capping a wild night where momentum swung again and again.

Let’s set the scene. Toronto came out flying. The Maple Leafs jumped on Vegas early, scoring three times in the opening ten minutes. It looked like the Leafs were in full control and Vegas seemed rattled, especially with Adin Hill playing his first game back after a long injury absence.

But this Golden Knights team doesn’t panic easily.

Vegas slowly settled in, started pushing back and chipped away at the lead. Power plays became a turning point. Pavel Dorofeyev struck twice with the man advantage and suddenly the game felt wide open again. The building came alive and you could sense Toronto getting uncomfortable.

Then came the moment that flipped everything.

With Vegas down by one and the net empty, time was nearly gone. Seven seconds left. Jack Eichel had the puck, made the play and Tomas Hertl buried the tying goal. Absolute chaos. Hats were thrown, the crowd exploded and just like that, this game was heading to overtime.

And if you’re Toronto, that’s a tough gut punch.

Overtime didn’t last long. Eichel stayed aggressive, confident and dangerous and he finished the job himself to seal Vegas’ sixth straight win. Four points on the night for Eichel and once again, he looked every bit like a franchise star.

There was extra emotion in this game too. Mitch Marner, now wearing Vegas colors after leaving Toronto, picked up two assists against his former team. He was booed loudly by Leafs fans in the building and you could feel that tension every time he touched the puck. The storyline will only grow louder when these teams meet again in Toronto later this month.

For the Maple Leafs, this one hurts. They got strong performances from Auston Matthews, John Tavares and William Nylander, but Nylander leaving early with a lower-body injury raises concern. Blowing a late lead like this, especially with playoff positioning always in mind, is something that sticks.

For Vegas, this win sends a message. They don’t quit, they thrive under pressure and when the game is on the line, Jack Eichel is the guy they trust.
