Fatawu’s Last-Gasp Volley Lifts Leicester in Dramatic Win Over West Brom
So, this was one of those nights that really summed up how unpredictable football can be. Leicester City managed to pull off a dramatic 2–1 win over West Bromwich Albion at the King Power Stadium, and it all came down to a stunning moment deep into stoppage time. Abdul Fatawu was the hero, firing home a sensational volley in the 94th minute to snatch all three points when it looked like the game was drifting toward a draw.
The backdrop to this match was tense even before kick-off. It was a freezing January evening, and the stadium felt unusually quiet, with plenty of empty blue seats visible. Some Leicester fans chose to stay away as a form of protest over the way the club has been run since relegation, so the atmosphere was already subdued. Still, those who did turn up were given something to cheer about fairly early on.

Leicester took the lead in the 18th minute, and it came from a neat bit of teamwork. Jordan James cut the ball back into the box, and Jordan Ayew was there to calmly prod it home from close range. For a moment, it felt like the Foxes might finally be settling into the game and easing some of the pressure that has been building around the club and manager Marti Cifuentes.
West Brom, though, responded well. They grew into the match and were rewarded in the 34th minute when Karlan Grant finished confidently after breaking forward, curling his effort into the bottom corner. From that point on, the visitors were largely on top. In the second half especially, chances were created again and again, and it was only a series of excellent saves from Leicester goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk that kept the score level. Shots were blocked, efforts were tipped away, and at one point the woodwork even came to Leicester’s rescue.
As the clock ticked down, it really felt like West Brom had done enough to at least earn a point. But football can be cruel. With almost the last kick of the game, a cross was delivered into the box, and Abdul Fatawu met it perfectly, crashing a volley into the net from around 15 yards. The goal was completely against the run of play, but it sent the home fans into raptures.
The final whistle confirmed a 2–1 win for Leicester, lifting them up to 12th in the Championship table. For West Brom, it was another painful away defeat, their 10th in a row on the road. In the end, Leicester celebrated a magical moment, while West Brom were left wondering how they once again walked away with nothing.
