LA28 Ticket Rush Begins, Big Dreams, Long Lines, and a Few Early Headaches

Good evening and tonight we’re turning our focus to Los Angeles, where the road to the 2028 Olympic Games has officially begun, at least for fans hoping to be part of history in person.

Registration has now opened for the LA28 Olympic ticket draw and this is the first real moment where the Games start to feel real for millions of people around the world. Los Angeles is preparing to host the Olympics for a historic third time and demand is already showing just how massive this event will be.

Here’s how it works. Fans are not buying tickets yet. Instead, they’re registering for a lottery. If selected, they’ll receive a time slot later this year to actually purchase tickets. Prices are expected to start at twenty eight dollars, a symbolic nod to the 2028 Games and organizers say around fourteen million tickets will be released across the Olympics and Paralympics. That’s more than any previous Games.

But as registration opened, not everything went smoothly.

Some fans reported long virtual waits, looping queues and error messages during the sign-up process. Social media quickly filled with frustration, especially from people who waited an hour or more only to be sent back to the start. Organizers say the issues were temporary, caused by overwhelming demand and that wait times eased later in the day. Still, it was an early reminder of just how intense interest in LA28 already is.

For residents in Southern California and parts of Oklahoma, where certain events will be hosted, there’s an added incentive. Locals who register early may qualify for a special early purchase window in April, giving them a head start before tickets open globally. Officials say this is part of an effort to make sure host communities have strong access to the Games.

And the scale of LA28 is hard to overstate. The opening ceremony will be split between the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium. Competition will run through late July, with the Paralympic Games following in August. Several sports will begin even before the opening ceremony and the schedule includes major changes, like track and field taking center stage in the first week, while swimming moves to the second.

The 2028 Games will also feature new and returning sports, including flag football, cricket, baseball, softball and the return of lacrosse. More medal events are planned than ever before, reflecting the Olympics’ push to evolve and attract new audiences.

The takeaway tonight is simple. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Registration stays open for weeks and everyone who signs up has a chance. But if the first day is any indication, the race to experience LA28 in person is going to be fierce.

And as Los Angeles counts down to welcoming the world once again, one thing is already clear. The Games may still be years away, but the Olympic buzz has officially arrived.
