Lulu Breaks Down as She Opens Up About a Painful Truth With Her Son
There’s been an emotional moment involving Lulu that’s really struck a chord, and it’s one of the most honest and vulnerable conversations she’s shared in years. The legendary singer, best known for hits like Shout and her Eurovision win, was left in tears while talking openly about her relationship with her son, Jordan, during a recent episode of the Therapy Works podcast.

Speaking with bestselling author and psychotherapist Julia Samuel, Lulu reflected on motherhood, regret, and the long road toward forgiveness. It was acknowledged, very candidly, that she doesn’t see herself as having been a “great parent,” even though she insists she did the best she could at the time. That admission alone was said to be painful, but what followed was even more raw.
Lulu explained that Jordan wouldn’t listen to the podcast or read her book because, in her words, it would simply be too painful. Still, she made it clear that nothing was being hidden from him. Everything has already been talked through. Over time, their relationship has been rebuilt, slowly and honestly, as she’s faced her own pain and taken responsibility for the past. It was said that this self-work has brought them closer than ever.
As the conversation went deeper, Julia Samuel described the different sides of Lulu’s life — the fun, bubbly performer the public sees, and the private woman who mourned a failed marriage, a miscarriage, and the mother she wished she could have been. When the focus returned to Jordan, Lulu struggled to find the words, becoming emotional as she spoke about his kindness and forgiveness.
She shared that what makes her cry most is how understanding her son has been about what she couldn’t give him. It was acknowledged that there were things she would handle differently if she could turn back time, but she said Jordan has accepted the past and moved forward. They are now, as she put it, “on the same page.”
In a more hopeful moment, Lulu revealed that her son recognises she’s making amends, and that it means everything to her to be present in his life now, especially as a grandmother to his children. Forgiveness, she suggested, has been the greatest gift.
It’s a powerful reminder that even icons carry regret, and that healing — while painful — can still lead to closeness, understanding, and grace later in life.
