Mystery Death at EDC Thailand Raises Alarms Over Festival Safety
A night of music, lights and celebration has turned into a disturbing mystery that is now drawing attention far beyond Thailand’s borders.
An Indian national has died under unclear and troubling circumstances after attending the Electric Daisy Carnival, known globally as EDC, in Phuket. The victim, a 28-year-old man identified as Jaisaksham, had traveled to the three-day electronic music festival that attracts thousands of fans from around the world. What should have been a high-energy cultural experience instead ended in a sudden collapse, frantic medical intervention and unanswered questions.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, Jaisaksham began behaving erratically as he was leaving the festival venue late Saturday night. Witnesses say he appeared disoriented and agitated and at one point damaged property along a nearby road. Emergency responders were called and he was rushed to Thalang Hospital in Phuket. Doctors said he was suffering from shock. Moments after being admitted, he lost consciousness and died despite medical efforts to save him.

The exact cause of death remains unknown. Thai authorities have ordered a full post-mortem examination and the body has been transferred to another hospital for a detailed autopsy. The Indian embassy has been notified and is coordinating the process to return the body to India.
What deepens concern is that this death was not the only serious incident reported during the same festival. Police have also confirmed cases of major theft, including a stolen diamond engagement ring worth hundreds of thousands of baht and a separate attempted break-in at a hotel room occupied by a female DJ attending the event. In that case, a hotel security guard was later arrested after allegedly attempting to enter her room and deleting CCTV footage.
While authorities have not linked these incidents directly, the pattern has raised questions about safety, security and emergency response at large international music festivals. Events like EDC are designed to be immersive and euphoric, but they also involve crowded environments, intense stimulation and visitors unfamiliar with local conditions.
