Shot Dead in a Quiet Neighborhood: Repentigny Wakes Up to Its First Murder of the Year
Good evening. We’re following a troubling story out of Repentigny, just north of Montreal, where a quiet residential street became the scene of deadly violence late Tuesday night.
It happened around ten o’clock. Neighbors began calling 911 after hearing gunshots and seeing a man lying on the ground in the parking lot of an apartment building on Sigouin Street. When emergency crews arrived, the scene was already grim. The man had been shot and was no longer breathing. He was pronounced dead right there, in a place where families normally park their cars and walk home at night.
Witnesses told police they saw at least one person standing near the victim just moments after the shooting. That person then ran off. Since then, no arrests have been made and the suspect, or suspects, remain at large.

What adds to the tension this morning is that this was not the only police call in the area that night. Just minutes after the shooting, officers were sent to a nearby apartment, only a few hundred meters away, after reports of a violent argument. Inside, they found another man injured. Thankfully, his life is not in danger. Right now, investigators are working to determine whether these two incidents are connected, or if it’s a coincidence that they happened so close together, in both time and location.
This killing is significant for another reason. It is the first homicide of the year in Repentigny. For a city that does not often see this level of violence, it has shaken residents and raised serious concerns about safety in what many consider calm, residential neighborhoods.
The investigation has now been handed over to the Sûreté du Québec, the provincial police, which typically steps in for major crimes like homicide. Authorities are being tight-lipped. They have not released the victim’s identity, sharing only that he was a man. Police say they are still piecing together the timeline and urging anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward.
For residents, this is a harsh reminder that gun violence can erupt without warning, even in familiar surroundings. In the coming days, investigators will look for surveillance footage, forensic evidence and witness cooperation to understand what led to this shooting and who is responsible.
For now, Sigouin Street is quiet again, but the shock remains. We’ll continue to follow this investigation closely as police work to bring clarity and accountability, to a community searching for answers.
