Solo Leveling Season 3 Buzz Grows as Netflix’s Live-Action Plans Take Shape
There’s been a lot of fresh chatter around Solo Leveling lately, especially as fans try to piece together what’s next for the franchise while season 3 rumors continue to swirl. Right now, the spotlight is firmly on Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation, and new details suggest that this version of Solo Leveling may arrive in a much more compact form than many initially expected.
According to recent reports, Netflix is planning to launch the live-action Solo Leveling series with just seven episodes in its first season. At first glance, that number might feel surprisingly small, especially when you remember that the anime’s first season ran for 12 episodes. However, the situation changes once the runtime differences are taken into account. Anime episodes typically land around 20 to 25 minutes, while Netflix’s live-action series are usually far longer, often stretching anywhere from 40 minutes to well over an hour per episode.

Because of that, it’s being suggested that the story won’t necessarily be rushed. In fact, it’s entirely possible that the live-action series could cover major arcs that anime-only viewers might associate with later seasons. Netflix has followed this same “quality over quantity” approach before. The live-action Yu Yu Hakusho adaptation, for example, had just five episodes, while One Piece season one told a massive story across only eight extended episodes. So while the episode count may look short on paper, the actual storytelling room could be much larger.
Filming for Solo Leveling is reportedly set to begin in April 2026, which puts the project firmly in motion. The confirmed cast has already generated plenty of excitement. Byeon Woo-seok has been cast as Sung Jin-woo, the once-weak E-rank Hunter who becomes humanity’s last line of defense after a near-death experience changes everything. Han So-hee will portray Cha Hae-in, and Kang You-seok has been announced as Jin-ho. More casting announcements are still expected, adding to the anticipation.
What’s also fueling interest is the sheer legacy of Solo Leveling itself. Since its debut as a web novel on KakaoPage, the series has amassed an astonishing 14.3 billion views worldwide. The anime adaptation didn’t just succeed, it dominated, making history at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards by sweeping nine major categories, including Anime of the Year. With achievements like that, expectations for anything labeled “Solo Leveling season 3” or its live-action counterpart are naturally sky-high.
While nothing has been officially confirmed about an anime season 3 just yet, speculation continues, including talk of a potential theatrical movie instead. For now, though, all eyes are on Netflix. If the live-action adaptation sticks close to the source material and delivers strong performances, this shorter first season could end up setting the stage for an even bigger future for Solo Leveling across anime, film, and live action alike.
