Titans Reopen the Door for Vance Joseph as Head Coaching Search Heats Up
Right now, the Tennessee Titans’ head coaching search is starting to gain real momentum, and one familiar NFL name is back in the spotlight — Vance Joseph. As the league’s interview window opens, it has been reported that the Titans have officially requested an interview with Joseph, who is currently serving as the Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator. Alongside him, interviews have also been requested with Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, signaling that Tennessee is casting a wide but experienced net.
What stands out immediately is that all three candidates have previous head coaching experience. That matters for a Titans team coming off a difficult season and clearly looking for stability. Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi is also very familiar with Nagy and Spagnuolo from his time in the Chiefs’ front office, which suggests these interviews are far from random. Trusted relationships appear to be playing a role as the franchise looks to reset.

For Vance Joseph, this opportunity represents a notable return to the head coaching conversation. His first run as a head coach came in Denver from 2017 to 2018, where an 11–21 record was posted. At the time, the results did not meet expectations, and his head coaching future seemed uncertain. However, since returning to Denver under head coach Sean Payton, Joseph’s work on the defensive side of the ball has been widely praised. The Broncos’ defense has been viewed as disciplined, aggressive, and well-prepared, and that resurgence is what has put Joseph firmly back on the radar.
Because the Broncos are still active in the postseason picture, Joseph’s availability is limited. A remote interview with the Titans can be conducted this week, but an in-person follow-up would have to wait until Denver is eliminated or during the narrow window between the AFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl. Still, the initial request alone shows genuine interest.
Steve Spagnuolo’s name also brings a wealth of experience. His earlier head coaching stint with the St. Louis Rams did not go well, and that period is often remembered for the team’s struggles. Since then, though, he has built an elite reputation as a defensive coordinator, particularly with the Chiefs, where his defenses have consistently delivered in high-pressure playoff moments.
All of this is unfolding after Tennessee fired second-year head coach Brian Callahan in October, following a rough start to the season. The Titans ultimately finished 3–14, placing them near the top of the 2026 NFL Draft order. With an early draft pick and a new coaching hire on the horizon, the direction chosen in the coming weeks could define the franchise’s next chapter — and Vance Joseph is now clearly part of that conversation.
