Canadian Coastal Town Gets a Superhero Shake-Up in “Bedaine”

A new kind of hero is about to take flight on ICI TOU.TV EXTRA, but not in the glittering skylines of New York or Los Angeles. Instead, the spotlight falls on a quiet, windswept village in Nova Scotia, where the extraordinary meets the everyday in a surprising new comedy called Bedaine .

Created and led by Ryan Doucette, who also stars as the series’ central figure, the show explores what happens when a fallen hero confronts his own humanity. Doucette plays a man once celebrated as “Le Moineau,” a local superhero adored for his daring feats. Three years after a tragedy leaves him isolated, he now lives quietly in Sainte-Lucie-des-Lueurs, weighed down by regret, alcohol and a nickname that mocks the man he used to be. His wings no longer lift him above the town—they are reminders of a past he cannot escape.

Yet this is more than a story of loss. Around him, a cast of vividly drawn characters brings both humor and heart to the series. There’s Rolanda, an earnest young saleswoman; the village’s lone police officer, Donald “la doughnut” Doucette, whose ambitions are bigger than his jurisdiction; and Super Merveilleux, an old teammate played by Thomas Beaudoin, whose charm and continued success highlight Bedaine’s struggles. Conflict intensifies when Dr. Évelyne, an ambitious scientist, arrives with plans to transform the village into a hub for genetically modified cannabis. Suddenly, Bedaine must rise again—not with superpowers or public accolades, but through courage, loyalty and a renewed sense of purpose.

The eight-episode series, each running just over 21 minutes, blends the absurdity of superhero life with the intimate, relatable experiences of small-town living. It tackles universal themes like grief, belonging and friendship, asking the question: what does it truly mean to be a hero? Is it about powers and fame, or about getting up every time life knocks you down?

Produced by Connexions Productions and supported by Canadian media funds and provincial backing from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Bedaine is a striking example of how Canadian storytelling can merge local charm with globally recognizable genres. The series premieres its first four episodes on February 26, with the remaining episodes following on March 5.

For audiences around the world, Bedaine offers a fresh perspective on resilience, humor and the human side of heroism. Keep your eyes on this coastal town, because in a place where the ordinary meets the extraordinary, anything can happen. Stay tuned and follow the story as Bedaine learns that sometimes the greatest powers are courage, community and the will to keep fighting.
