Cold Air Fades, 30°C Heat Looms—Taiwan’s Holiday Weather Takes a Turn
Cold air is losing its grip, but the temperature swing across Taiwan is about to surprise many people.
Right now, a continental cold air mass is still influencing the island, bringing cooler conditions to the north and east. In cities like Taipei and Yilan, daytime highs have struggled to climb past the upper teens Celsius. Early morning temperatures have dipped sharply, with some coastal and northern areas seeing readings close to 10 degrees. It feels damp, especially along the windward eastern coastline, where light, scattered showers have lingered.
But this is a transition moment.

According to the latest outlook from the Central Weather Administration , the cold air mass is expected to weaken starting tomorrow. As it retreats, temperatures will rebound quickly. Across central and southern Taiwan, highs are already reaching the mid-20s and by the weekend, many western areas could see afternoon temperatures climb to 28, even 30 degrees Celsius.
That is a dramatic shift in just a few days.
However, this warming trend comes with a catch. The difference between daytime highs and nighttime lows will grow wider. In some regions, especially in central and southern Taiwan, the temperature gap could exceed 10 to 15 degrees. Mornings will still feel cool, but afternoons may feel almost summer-like. That kind of swing can catch people off guard, increasing the risk of colds and other seasonal illnesses.
Rainfall will remain focused mainly on the eastern half of the island and the Hengchun Peninsula. Western regions are expected to stay mostly dry with a mix of clouds and sunshine. But forecasters are also watching another potential surge of northeasterly winds early next week, which could once again lower temperatures in the north and increase rain chances along windward coasts.
This matters not just for comfort, but for travel and public safety. With the holiday travel period still underway, changing weather conditions could affect road visibility, especially in mountainous areas and along coastal highways. Drivers returning from family gatherings should stay alert to sudden showers in the east and shifting temperatures elsewhere.
So while the rain is easing and warmer air is on the way, the story is far from over. Taiwan is entering a period of rapid weather changes and that means staying prepared is key.
