Deividas Skebas Jailed 25 Years for Killing 9-Year-Old Lilia in Random Attack
A life sentence has been handed down in a case that shocked the United Kingdom and left a family shattered beyond words.
Deividas Skebas will spend a minimum of 25 years behind bars for the murder of nine-year-old Lilia Valutyte, a child who was simply playing outside when her life was taken in a sudden and brutal attack. The sentencing took place at Lincoln Crown Court, where the judge described the killing as shocking and horrific and reminded the court that nothing said or done could ever ease the pain of losing a child.
Lilia was playing with a hula hoop near her mother’s workplace in Boston, Lincolnshire, in July 2022. CCTV footage showed a carefree young girl enjoying an ordinary afternoon. Within moments, that normal day turned into tragedy. Skebas approached her and fatally stabbed her in what prosecutors described as a random and deliberate act.

The court heard that Skebas had purchased a kitchen knife earlier and had been walking around the same area before the attack. He later claimed he was influenced by delusions, including a belief that he was being controlled by a chip implanted by NASA. Medical evidence confirmed he was suffering from schizophrenia. He admitted killing Lilia but argued his responsibility was diminished due to his mental state. A jury rejected that defense and found him guilty of murder earlier this month.
During sentencing, the judge acknowledged the presence of mental illness but said the seriousness of the crime, the vulnerability of the victim and elements of planning meant a life sentence was unavoidable. If Skebas is ever discharged from psychiatric hospital care, he will return to prison to continue serving his term.
Lilia’s parents, who followed proceedings through translation, have spoken about the unbearable pain of losing their daughter. They described her as a beautiful soul with a strong personality and they continue to ask the question that so many grieving families ask: why?
