FBI Releases Chilling Video of Armed Intruder at Nancy Guthrie’s Door
The FBI has just released haunting new surveillance footage from the home of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old woman who disappeared from her Arizona residence earlier this month. The video captures a masked and armed individual approaching her front door in the dead of night, appearing to tamper with the doorbell camera before vanishing into the shadows. Authorities say the footage was recovered from residual data after the camera had been disconnected, providing a crucial new lead in a case that has gripped the nation.
Investigators believe Nancy Guthrie was abducted on February 1. Just before her disappearance, her doorbell camera was disconnected at 1:47 a.m. and shortly thereafter, other surveillance systems recorded unusual activity. The FBI describes the individual seen in the footage as carrying what appears to be a semiautomatic handgun in a generic holster. They also note the suspect was taking extreme measures to hide their identity, including wearing a full ski mask, gloves and concealing any distinguishing features on clothing or a backpack.

This new release comes as the alleged kidnappers’ ransom demand reportedly passed without resolution. The perpetrators had requested $6 million, a demand that authorities say went unfulfilled and there is no verified communication between the family and those behind the abduction. Savannah Guthrie, Nancy’s daughter and the “Today” show host, quickly shared the images on her social media, urging anyone who might recognize the masked individual to come forward. Her message underscores a belief that her mother is still alive and emphasizes the urgency of public assistance.
Law enforcement experts point out that while the images may not immediately identify the suspect, they contain potential clues. Former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe noted details like reflective elements on the jacket and the possibility that the individual carried a penlight in their mouth could trigger an “oh my gosh” moment for someone who recognizes the person. Historical cases show how similar public releases have led to critical breakthroughs, turning a dead-end investigation into actionable leads.
Authorities, including the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, are continuing an exhaustive investigation around the Guthrie residences and coordinating with private sector partners to recover any lost or inaccessible footage. The FBI has also announced a $50,000 reward for information that could lead to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery or the apprehension of those responsible.
This case highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in confronting abductions, the role technology can play in providing evidence and the importance of community vigilance. As this investigation develops, any detail could be the key to bringing Nancy Guthrie home safely.
