IED Scare in Kashmir: Multiple Devices Defused Along Key Highway
A potential tragedy was narrowly avoided in Jammu and Kashmir after security forces detected and defused multiple improvised explosive devices along one of the region’s busiest routes.
In the district of Baramulla, an IED was discovered in the Janbazpora area during the night. Security personnel moved quickly. The area was sealed off and a bomb disposal squad was called in. After careful inspection and controlled procedures, the device was safely defused. No injuries. No damage. But the discovery raised immediate concern.
At nearly the same time, along the crucial Srinagar-Baramulla highway, another suspicious object was spotted near Narbal. It appeared to be a briefcase placed by the roadside. That single object was enough to halt traffic and trigger a full security response. The highway was temporarily shut down. Bomb experts examined the item, sanitized the area and ultimately destroyed the device safely.

And it did not stop there. Additional suspicious objects were reported near Hajiwara Payeen in Kupwara district, along the same highway corridor. Security forces, including police units and specialized teams, cordoned off the zone and carried out precautionary checks before neutralising the threat.
Now, this highway is not just any road. It is a lifeline. It connects communities, supports daily commuters and plays a vital role in civilian and security movement across north Kashmir. Any disruption here carries serious implications. Even temporary closures can affect trade, transport and public confidence.
What stands out is the pattern. Suspicious objects placed in public areas. Devices concealed in everyday items like briefcases. These tactics are designed to create fear, disrupt normal life and challenge security operations. But the response this time was swift and coordinated.
Authorities have not yet released details about who may be responsible. Investigations are ongoing. Forensic teams are likely examining the materials used and intelligence agencies will work to determine whether these incidents are linked.
For residents in the region, the message is clear. Vigilance remains critical. Early detection prevented what could have been devastating consequences. And for the wider world, this is a reminder that security challenges in sensitive regions require constant monitoring and rapid response.
